£7.95 ($16) Per Glass Of Wine At Hotel Wedding Reception Last Night - Sober ;(

What is the highest you have ever paid for a glass or cup of drink. I thought intially because it was a Hilton that the prices in the lounge were more expensive and that when we got into the function they would be different but no this price was in both venues. Hence I had a very enjoyable but fairly sober evening at those prices LOL. Ellie :D

I don't blame you for staying sober at those prices, my friend. I don't think I've ever paid that high for a drink... maybe £5, but certainly not as much as £7.95. That's exorbitant and two and a half times as much as the pubs, at least. Wow!!! I hope you enjoyed the wedding, despite that, my friend. Brightest Blessings. xx [Darkwing]
Well no, but I guess he was wanting drinks as well. It must have cost you a small fortune! xx [Darkwing]

£7.95, per glass, are you having a laugh? That is what I would have said to them too! I have never paid that much for a drink EVER! Shocked LOL [gemini_rose]
Well, at least you know for next time! [gemini_rose]

That's unbelievable. I don't blame you for staying sober. I think I'd have to break the bank just to get a bit tipsy! [rpegan]
Even staying sober was at a price a bottle of water was £3 so we managed to get a can of coke for £1.50. Crazy prices. Ellie :D [ellie333]

Hi there ellie, That was fair enough, I am trying to imagine it wish you can share us a picture...LOL! Well for me, I always got it free...I am jobless and my friends or husband will always get it for me! Cheers! [checapricorn]
FREE I can do FREE I can get drunk on but at £7.95 a glass no way LOL. Thanks for sharing. Ellie :D [ellie333]

oh my god that is shocking! i have never paid more than £4 for a drink lol and i would outright refuse to pay anymore than that. may be i am just tight lmao. hope u enjoyed your reception tho hun and if it were me there i prob would have been in the ladies drinking the tap water rofl! [graceandowen]
Didn't think of the tap water in the ladies but an excellent idea if invited to another expensive hotel LOL. The reception was fantastic it really was and I danced the night away to save having to sit and sup rather than drink the drink I did have. The bride and groom had their fairytale day and both looked radiantly happy bless. Ellie :D [ellie333]

That price is just heart stopping isn't it Ellie. I have attended many work related events at "smart" hotels where the prices amount to daylight robbery. When you know, it's usually cheaper to buy a bottle and share it with someone else. I can't be specific, but I've certainly paid in the ballpark that you did. When we were first married we used to meet for a drink after work at the Savoy sometimes. Wine then cost £2 a glass. That was nearly 22 years ago. I have uprated the value of the pound and the same drink would cost £4.22 today. (Bet is doesn't though) Still somewhat cheaper than the Hilton. [p1kef1sh]
Hi Thanks for sharing lets hope I get to go to one at the Savoy next time then as this was absolutely ridiculous. The thing is I am used to going to events at social clubs with their bar prices and there you can get a whole bottle of wine for £5 and that wouldn't have even filled the glass here. Crazy. Ellie :D [ellie333]

hi ellie..i have never paid like that even before really its too expensive. [marketing07]
Hi Marketing, ridiculous price. Rest assured I didn't buy more than the one glass. Ellie :D [ellie333]

hI Ellie, That was extortion,I went to function one cost us £20s a head and only had one glass of wine(small glass) by the end of the it cost even more, came home still hungrey. Love Tamarafireheart. [tamarafireheart]
Hi Yes to come home still hungry is not good. I must admit that the food was absolutely fantastic, there was a great selection including a massive chocolate fountain too so I ate well. Ellie :D [ellie333]

Holy buckets! What kind of wine were they charging for? I think five bucks is more then enough for a glass of wine but I have never heard of it being that expensive! I bet it was a sobering fact that lent itself to very light drinking! [jillhill]
Hi Jill, Nothing special just wine. You would have thought the function room prices would have been less than the hotel lounge bar anyway but NO. I very happy but sober evening was had by many. Ellie :D [ellie333]

Hi Ellie-think the most I have paid for a bottle of drink was £16 dont know what that is in dollars-but it was a bottle of champagne after my divorce-lol and getting the tenancy of my house-bright blessings and huggles littleowl [littleowl]
Hi Ellie-yes it was after a big ordeal in court for most of the day--I thoroughly enjoyed the drink too blessings and huggles littleowl [littleowl]

Geez Ellie, that's a bit rich for a glass of wine. You could buy a cask or a flagon for that price. There is no way I would have had even one drink at that price. [Goodie123]
I might just do that Ellie. [Goodie123]

What's the highest price I ever paid for a drink? I woke up with a stranger. :) [gitfiddleplayer]
That is so great a response gitfiddleplayer.lol I hope you did not have to bite your arm off, to get away from them.w00trasp [Goodie123]

Hi dear well its too much, i am glad that even to u i order Plain water. LOL i am sure its not that expensive. We we have fresh juices here and in some seasons they arte really expensivem so the most expensive i paid for it is almost US$4. its not small a mount tooowink Take care [cupid74]
Well, its nice and i believe after spending so much money u should enjoy other wise it would have been great Losss Take care [cupid74]

I think its 150 INR (3.5 USD) for a cup of tea in a hotel. And the tea tasted nothing great, just like the one I have at home. In fact the darjeeling brew that I drink is more aromatic that it!! [mimpi1911]
Yes, it is! It tasted like very watery ad tasteless..not worth at all! [mimpi1911]

That price is abolutely atrocious hen you consider you can get a full bottle from most supermarkets for £4 ($8). What's happening is you're paying for the Hilton name and all their overheads. Ouch! [MichaelJay]
Hi Michael, yes it was a bit ouch. I thought perhaps being in the main lounge bar that was the reason but when they were charging the same in the function room too, I just knew it would be a very sober night. Even water was £3 per bottle and one guy who had arrived ordered a pint and a wine and it came to £13.50 you should have seen the look on his face. Ellie :D [ellie333]

Wow..shiitt Did they offer you anything to drink for free? Honey at least you don't have to wonder what you did..hehe Too bad! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoo [raydene]
Hi Raydene, Oh I was such a good girl, totally sober. I had a couple of drinks when I got back to my friends where I was staying. No, no free drinks, food was a lovely spread though but I really thought that once in the function room maybe the oprices would lower but no. The next time I get invited to a wedding like that I think I will take a flask in my bag LOL. Ellie :D [ellie333]

Ouch! I would definitely have had a very sober evening at that price - or more likely I would have taken a hip flask with a little something in my handbag! lol I have had to pay a lot for a drink but i wouldn't give them that type of money - what a rip off! xxx [mummymo]
If I had of known the prices before I went I would have taken a flask, initally I thought it was because we were in the lounge bar rather than the function room but when the prices were the same in there indeed yes a very sober (but enjoyable) evening had by all. Total rip off I agree. Ellie :D [ellie333]

That is rather expensive but sounds about right for a Hilton hotel which are always a ripoff. You pay through the nose for the expensive rooms and hire of expensive suites for weddings or conferences and then pay an arm and a leg for drinks and good too. I can tell you the most expensive drink I bought was well over 10 years ago at a hotel in London (it was so crap I've forgotten the name and never stayed there again) for a company do - we were having our Christmas party at Madame Tussauds in the evening. I ordered myself and my ex 2 vodka and cokes and it came to £24 - I was stunned and asked them to double check and they pointed out that they gave double measures as standard! We had an hour to kill before the coach came to take us to Madame Tussauds, I tell ya, that's the longest I've made a vodka and coke last hahahaha! [anonymili]
Hi, yes this glass of wine lasted me a good while too on Saturady night. It is totally unecessary to charge these prices especially at a private function. The hotel lounge bar yes if people choose to saty somewhere so expensive. £24 for 2 double bicardis and coke let me see at the Hilton that would have been £21.50 so you beat every one so far on the prices of the drinks especially as it was a few years ago. The longest hour eh! Ellie :D [ellie333]

That's what I pay for a 5 litre cask of wine!!! How extortionate...I wouldangry've been too angry to enjoy the party at that rate!!thumbdown [MsTickle]
Hi MsTickle, it was a very sober evening but not sombre as it was the celebration of a marriage but I just couldn't believe what a rip off the prices were. Ellie :D [ellie333]

I think the most I have paid is 5.50 cents, for a wine, I rarely go out to drink the only thing that I do is go out for supper, with not being able to walk far anymore, it is really hard. [winterose]
Hi Winterose, This £7.95 was a rip off, I could have almost bought a bottle of Baileys or a half bottle of Bicardi for that, crazy. A very sober night was had by all. Ellie :D [ellie333]
