When we were teens we would all hop in cars and cruise the strip. There was one road that had all the hookers on it and then there was main street etc. so all night these cars full of teens would drive around in circles. It was all pointless but gas was under 50 cents a gallon! It was like a ritual. Then we would stop at "the spot" and talk for awhile and then back to "cruising the strip". Do teens still do this or has the world changed with gas prices skyrocketing. Did you do it?

They did it in my day, too. But I never did it and I think it's a silly waste of time. You go up the street and turn around and go back down the street, like going around in circles. What is the point of that? I don't think my son ever did it either. I don't even know where there's a strip around here. I guess uptown, but this area is pretty dead now. I'll have to ask him if there's a teen strip around here. [piasabird]
It truly was a waste of time, there just wasn't much for kids around here to do back then. If only I could get that time back and add it on to the rest of my life... [whywiki]
Yes we did!!...I was born and raised in a small town called..Lancaster S.C..that was the big thing to do...if the parents ever wanted to find their kids all they had to do was head to "Main street"..but you know there was some old grouchies..that stopped it..so now I guess the kids get into a lot worse things now..then ridding down main street..sometimes the kids would park in the parking lots and just talk and look at each other..haha..the good ole days.. Times were a lot simpler then weren't they [whywiki]
We did this back in the early 60s. Only we called it dragging main. We would see who could get to the next stop light the fastest. We would have all the windows open and the radio blaring. holler back and forth at each other. If we found some one to talk to we would park thhere on main street. We would sometime meet at the A&W or futher from main at a bugger drive-in called the Arrowhead. They had burgers bigger than the whopper. We could fill the gas tank for about $3.00. I don't think my kids drug main. [deebomb]
that would be interesting Thanks for BR. [deebomb]
Sadly, the teens in this small town still cruise the 'strip.' This is a very small town with little to do besides go to the movies. The teens gather and ride up and down the 'main' street in town, finally congregating in one particular fast-food lot. Seems the gas prices have had little effect on their cruising. Things such as this are only driving gas prices higher. AS for me, no, I never got into cruising when I was a teen. I grew up in a medium sized city and only a few teens cruised. (they were the gangsters and hoodlums) [crazynurse]
Thats too bad cause you don't know what you missed. [deebomb]
About twenty years ago I did. Me and my wife were just talking about this today. We were listenign to old 80's songs and talkign about what we were doing back when it was new. I told her you know our kids are never gona have that kind of freedom to just get together and go for rides with their friends. Its kind of like they took away our freedom jsut by raising the price of gas. [EvanHunter]
My hubby and I went for a cruise on Sunday out boonie bashing we were. It reminded me of my youth just driving like a madman down dirt logging roads. It is a shame that a whole generation will miss out on it. [whywiki]
