Do You Have A Vacation Horror Story

You have gone on a a vacation, right? Was there every a time you wished you went some place else? my husband and I went to Turks and Caicos and I fell going up the stairs to check in the hotel. I got 20 stitches in my right knee and could not go in the water or sit on the beach. My husband had to push me in a wheelchair when I left the room. After a day or so, I sent my husband to have fun, and I watched TV

I bet you were so miserable. I don't think I have experinced any horror vacation except on of the hotel room the bed was so short and our feet was stcking out and all the hotel were full. [aprilgrl]

I would say after I got married my honeymoon. It was great but on the way back we had a car wreack. It was the other driver's fault. We got rear ended. Which it doesn't matter our marriage ended before the year was even over. [Shaun72]

Oh man that must have sucked! About 6 yrs ago or so, I went on vacation to S. Carolina with my ex and his mother. I was sitting on the shoreline in a lawn chair enjoying the water on my feet, and had a bag to collect some sea shells. The waved first just ran across my feet...As time went on, the waves got higher, and higher until they reached my chest and knocked me right out of the chair into the water...I wouldn't have been so scared and upset, but I have a muscle disease and I am not as strong as the average person...So, Im clinging onto the chair while swooshing back and forth and all over in the water, trying to hold onto everything but I couldn't. I ended up losing my cigs, and mt new sunglasses, plus the bag of shells...and almost lost myself too... I could not get up out the water by myself so I had to sit there till my ex came out of the water...He finally came and was looking at me...I told him what happened and he said,"Your Kidding Me!!". So, then he helped me up and took me back to our cabin, and I never went into the ocean or near it at all for the rest of the trip...but I still had a good time. lol [babyboo3980]

Sorry to here that happen.I was in Ocean City when I bit into a burger and cracked one of my teeth. It was in the back of my mouth and the nerve was exposed.I could barely eat and was totally miserable. It hurt so bad.I did not have enough money to get it fixed. So I bought some kind of temporary tooth filler at the drug store. It keep coming out.I think I ate more filler than food.LOL! Mine wasn't nearly as bad as yours (I didn't require a hospital trip), but I certainly was miserable, and it was completely my fault. I am far from flawless, but I try to learn from my mistakes each year. This was a mistake I will never make again. We went camping. I LOVE camping. I spend days and days and days planning these trips. I make sure that we work from a list and I work on the list year round in the attempt to not forget anything. Some things are absolute musts: a first aid kit, bug spray, food, clothing, etc. I remembered everything. It seemed like we took more with us than we left at home. We arrived around dusk and began to unpack. It took us a couple of hours to unpack and set up. What I *didn't* do was pack everything in a logical order. I had packed the bug spray inside a huge rubbermaid container (at the bottom, of course), and that container was the very last thing to come out of the truck. The next morning, I woke up to find I looked like I had the chicken pox. I had mosquito and black fly bites in every (and I do mean EVERY) possible place imaginable. I could barely breathe. My nose was running incessantly (but not draining at all). I couldn't stop coughing. My whole body itched and I thought I was going to go out of my mind. I ended up taking some antihistamines, covering my body with calamine lotion, and sleeping through the first two days of our vacation. Now the bug spray is packed in the front seat of the truck and is the first thing to get unpacked, and a spare can is packed somewhere in the back. [Hmmmmm]

Yep, I went to Las Vegas a few years ago and ended up in the emergency room with strep throat. After leaving the hospital my daughter and I ended up riding along the strip looking for a drug store to get me some medication. I was so glad to get back to Florida. There's no place like home. [jerryn]

Oh no how terrible. You have heard of Montezuma's revenge? I got it in Mexico, (3 times) before I realized every time I ate beef I was sick for the rest of the vacation. I have been back to Mexico 5 times since then. When I go to Maui I get it and I once got in South Korea. [crystalball]

yeah i went to England for vacation only thing is all my lugage went to spain it was a week before i got it what a pain no clothes but the ones i stood in however i had a great excuse for a shopping trip ! [revdauphinee]

We go once a year to a swap meet/flea market and one year is rained practically all five days we were there. I teased about making bricks since they were putting straw out at the soupier parts. It was not a fun week. We did all we could to stay dryer and cook nice food. I hope we both never experience the things we did with our nightmare vacations. [Willowlady]

When I was 16 years old, my mom, my brother and I took a trip to Wisconsin. On the way we got into a car accident. We were going about 55 when a car came, from a small cross way and smashed into our car. It was so bad that the front end of our car was smashed in all the way into the dash board. The other car rolled into a tree. Our car was wrecked, to were it was unfixable. We had to get a ride home. We were lucky to survive. So we never did get to have a vacation that year. [OURDEW]

It used to be that we could only afford to go visit family for vacation, so we sometimes ended up at my mother-in-law's. This was never a good time for me, but what do you do? At the time I was married to a momma's boy who was easily influenced by her, always doing what she wanted and disregarding me. At the time he had grown a beard because I said I thought he'd look great in one, which he did because he had a "weak chin" and the beard covered that fact up. After the first day there his mom said she hated it and he promptly shaved it off. [I should have taken that as a sign of future marital problems!] I was really upset that he had done that without even saying anything to me before hand. Anyway, the next day we left to go sightseeing. I hadn't eaten much breakfast because I'd not slept well and didn't feel all that good. We went to see Arlington Cemetery and were watching the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. It was kind of warm and we were standing in a crowd of people. My hubby was taking pictures and I started feeling "woosie", light-headed. I said "I need to sit down." Without even looking at me he continued taking pictures and said off-handedly, "There's no where here to sit." I backed up against a tree sapling and promptly slid down the trunk in a dead faint. Next think I knew there was a Marine in full dress uniform waving smelling salts under my nose and asking if I wanted an ambulance. I convinced him that I didn't need an ambulance, that I just needed to get back to our car. My hubby was mortified. He said I embarrassed him in front of all those people because when I fainted my skirt had been pulled up nearly to my underwear. The amazing thing is, I stayed married to him for another ten years! I'm happy to say that I am now in a loving, happy, twenty-year relationship that I treasure. And, while we sometimes visit family, we don't vacation there! [youdontsay]

My sister and I had the bright idea to take the kids camping. She and her husband had been invited to a free weekend at a campsite time share. So we loaded her five, my three, her husband and a couple of the kids' friends into a borrowed Winnebago and hit the road for the three hour trip (sing it with me "a three hour cruise.") Five hours later, tempers were flaring, the refrigerator wasn't working and we had to stop every hour or so to buy ice or risk losing all of our food. A couple hours after that, still unable to find the campsite, we gave up and agreed to stop at the next town we came to. A couple of hours after that we found a little town population maybe 25. It wouldn't have been a problem getting a room except that was the one weekend of the year they were having a cowboy jamboree. We considered ourselves lucky to find a run down RV park with one space left. So we pitched our tents on the asphalt and marched the kids off to the community rest room...and then marched them right back, the place was so filthy we decided we could all share the one toilet in the RV and baths could wait. The next morning we marched the kids to the pool, thinking we could salvage some of the weekend, only to find the pool empty of water but full of trash. So we took off intending to go to a State Park about 4 hours away and try to get a campsite there. We got sidetracked when our vehicle stalled. This is how I learned in my brother in law's family, when they wanted something fixed, the lent it to him. They knew the RV had two gas tanks but something would not let them switch over to the spare. They lent it to him knowing if it broke while he had it, he would feel obligated to repair it. So there we were with one empty tank and unable to switch over to use the gas in the other. Of course we were between towns and the refrigerator still wasn't working so we started cooking all the meats that were getting warm while he hiked to the next town to get the part to fix the gas lines. One good thing that came of this little stop was that while fixing the line, he discovered and fixed what was wrong with the refrigerator. Back on the road again, I dozed off and woke to pitch dark, my sister and her husband arguing about where we could spend the night. He finally said he was too tired to drive anymore, pulled over and parked. The next morning we discovered we were about two feet from the edge of a 50 foot drop off. Ever adventurous, we moved up the road a mile or so and found a spot with picnic tables where we could park and set up to make breakfast. The kids wandered around always staying in site of the RV but came back to tell us about the men who were watching them. My brother in law went to check it out, came back, hustled us into the RV and took off. Seems the only building within ten miles was the state prison, and the men in the distinctive orange jump suits were inmates on a work crew. We drove till we came to another small town and asked about good campsites and got directions to a nearby site with five large ponds and open areas for camping. What they neglected to mention is that on the weekends the townspeople hang out at the lake, drinking. When they were good and liquored up, they got loud, raced their cars around the tents and shot their guns. They kept it up until after 1 am when summer storm rolled in. Thunder, lighning and wind. The wind kept getting stronger till it uprooted our tents. So all 13 of us, wet and cold and cranky tired, climbed into the RV designed sleep six and tried to sleep. Morning dawned, warm and sunny, we got in a fair amount of fishing. Everyone but me caught at least one fish. The kids had a great time for the remainder of the day and we headed home with no further adventures. The kids have great memories of that weekend. My sister and I dubbed it "The Vacation from Hell." Oddly, it didn't stop us from taking other joint family trips. And it didn't stop us from dubbing those "The Vacations from Hell Parts 2 - 5." [dragonstar13]

Yup sure do We (hubby) and I were taking an RV trip through Mexico. Very interesting trip it was First off I lost the translation book the 1st day in Not a biggy I know Everything was going great We toured Calami, Acapulco and few other place Can't remember the names at the moment On our way back towards home the back axle in our 5th wheel broke I mean really broke. We were saved They had exactly what we needed and fixed us all up. Didn't cost both arms and legs Like it would have here Good and bad all in one story Wendy [wenfri]

Carolee the last post i read about your vacation was when you went to cancun, and you had this terrible story with Th's sunburn and now i am hearing about another vacation to Turk and Caicos where you got twenty stitches, what is going on here..Lol. Your next vacation post must be, and this is a request of your dream vacation. :) It seems terrible, stitches on your vacation, felling down the stairs. My mother had a similar thing happened to her, but she had this accident a few days before her dream vacation and her foot was broken, and we all canceled the vacation to Romania, because of this. We were pretty sad for her, because she suffered such great pain and all. I am sorry about this ruining your vacation, this seem like a very hard situation. The only horror story that i can remember now is when i was on my last day vacation in Australia. Me and my boyfriend had such a big fight in the airport, about three hours before catching a plane to Thai land, that i told him, i was not taking the same plane as him. Well, it was the last flight to Thai the same day, so eventually i did take it, but we did not talk the whole flight. And after we got to Thai i stayed there for ten days, taking a flight back to Israel a week after him, because i was so mad about him being mad, that he ruined my last days of the vacation. so i did take a flight back to Israel along about a week after. The big part of this horror story begins when we were sitting for 10 hours in a plane, closed plane. Because there was a male function with something that was connected to the fuel transfer on the plane. Have you ever been on a closed plane for 10 hours, knowing that you still have another 10 to 11 hours flight???? I think everyone on the plane became crazy and claustrophobic, and after one of the passengers had a hysteria attack, they got us off the plane and drove us back to Bangkok to stay the night at a hotel. Needless to say that it was one of the best hotels i ever been at, all paid by the air company, i made a lot of new friends and my boyfriend in Israel was so worried, so when i finally got to the Israeli airport, he waited for me with flowers, and needless to say that are fight was over. We went caravanning in the northern england. We had a tiny little caravan,2 kids and an alsatian. It rained the entire two weeks . We couldnt get our clothes clean or dry our rain soaked things. The shops were all tourist shops and far too expensive. We couldnt afford to see any of the attractions. We went to a farm with the kids (the best day) and stroked a beautiful soft nosed calf and looked around at the animals and both my kids fell face down in the thick mud. We spent a lot of time reading out loud and playing snakes and ladders. I was glad to go home. [mihimolly]

WEll it has always been with me and my sister. We used to be a regular visitor to our grandma's home.It was indeed a perfect place for the Durga puja or Dussehera vacation.During this festival we used to have the incantations for ten days continuously and lots of flowers used to be the need of those incantations. I along wih my four brothers and sisters went to bing flowers fom he whole village a nigh three and we were shocked to see something very strange in appearance with all white looks. My heart sends a shiver down the whole body to speak it all up.We all ran away with tremendous pace ,but hen with fear really taking its roots in the heart and mind. That was a stuff I really have been horrified at. [viplav15]

Oh yes, as I remember when I was 12 yrs. of age, every summer vacation we went to my uncles house at the province. They said that they always seen some kind of a monster in there neighborhood. My father is not a believer in that monster, so me too I don't believe coz my father influence me thats it's only a imagination thats why I'm not afraid of it. It was already 11pm I was sitting beside the window I was looking up to the sky when I so monster at he top of the roof of my neighbor, my eyes are open with shock, he is smiling with me with very brigh tand ugly face with long tongue. I shout and called my father without taking away my eyes on him but when my father came it's only a blink of a eye he immediately dissapear. I don't know if its a true monster but how did he get up in the roof at the middle of the night. Thats my experienced I will not ever forget. [lynboobsy11]

Thankfully, I have not had anything bad happen to me when I was on vacation. Most of my accidents happened when I was a child and at or near home. PEACE [fpd1955]

Yep, when I was 12 we went to Disneyland and Knottsberry Farm in Cali. We got to the motel and us girls were beyond hyped to go swimming, so mom let us. Got out to the pool and jumped in...the shallow end...there was no deep end we found out and broke 8 yes eight toes! That was a really fun time! Had to walk around Disneyland and Knottsberry Farm with broken toes! I had to wear moms sandals because I couldn't put any shoes on. It was horrible! [mickidmw]

I went to the Bahamas years ago, but had to spend 2 days in bed cause my feet go so sunburnt, it was a nightmare. But the local barman went into the little jungle beside the hotel and cut a big lump of aloe for me. It healed really fast. [slarkin71]

Once when my children were still small, we went camping with my husband's parents and brother. We started out having a great time, because my mother-in-law is such a great cook, and she knows a lot about camping and how to do things. She cooked a great dinner the first night we were there, and she set a beautiful picnick table with a pretty tablecloth and a vase with flowers. The next morning, she and I went to the womens shower room to shower and get dressed, and on the way back, as we were walking down the hill, I heard a crack, like a tree branch breaking, and saw my mother-in-law go down. She said "I think I broke my leg", and she sat down on the ground. She didn't fall, her leg just broke. Luckily, right as it happened, a paramedic just happened to be passing by, and was able to lend us a temporary splint to help support her broken leg until we got to the hospital. We took her to the hospital to get fixed up, and then we headed home. She wanted to stay at the camp, but we thought it would be too hard on her. It was so hot, and we were afraid it would just be too miserable for her. We always wanted to go back and try it again, but we never got a chance to. [KarenO52]

One time on a camping trip with my husbands family, I was about 7 months pregnant and we were going down to the lake and it started pouring down rain, really hard and so everyone started running back toward where the tent was and we got to a steep little hill and I fell and slid all the way down...I got up and was real muddy. My sister-in-laws saw me fall and was very embarressing! The other time was we were, again on vacation with in0-laws and i was coming out the door of the cabin we were staying in and I tripped and fell down the steps. of course everyone SAW that too! I was from then on "dubbed" the "Klutz!" [carolynpb]
