When you go on vacation, do you take your laptop with you for convenience, or leave it home because you might lose or damage it?

Depends where you're going for a vacation. I'd rather have my laptop with me than not, but if I'm taking a 12+ flight to another country it might not be worth it. If I'm going on a short vacation thats a few hours away by plane, and going to be staying in a secure place, i always take my laptop. If its a long trip, or I'm staying in a hostel, I wouldn't bring it, but i have a blackberry which is decent for email and news. [baran_anna]
I guess if I had a Blackberry, I might leave it at home. But, I'm visiting my daughter, in Australia, - I live in Thailand - and will be away for ten weeks, so it makes sense for me to take it. Thanks for your input. [mipen2006]
I would definitely take mine with me if I had one. I like to stay connected so my phone usually works but my sister has a laptop which I could always persuade her to bring hopefully. [blamzzz]
I think you have to consider security against convenience. We all like to stay connected these days. [mipen2006]
I'd take it with me for convenience. I wouldn't take it on the actual vacation itself, but to the hotel room and the flight or car ride there to use and play with [vanonas]
Would you be concerned about security if you left it in your hotel? I'm staying with my daughter and her family for ten weeks, so mine is going with me. [mipen2006]
I take my laptop everywhere I go. Escpecially on vacation. You never know when you will need it. If I am on vacation and I need directions or a phone number for a resturant all I have to do is get out my computer. It is pretty convienant. [aprilsue00]
I agree. With programs like Google World, your computer has many more benefits than just contacting friends. [mipen2006]
Am planning to take it on vacation. I just got my laptop a few months back and am going on a sort of "mini-vacation" soon, so I'll be bringing my laptop around. It's mainly for convenience's sake; I need to check on things while I'm away. [naokokensaku]
There are so many benefits of having your computer with you, the only thing I'd worry about would be security. I'd hate to have it stol;en, there's too much personal information on it. [mipen2006]
When I've got a laptop, it pretty much goes everywhere with me. I'm not saying I'd take it to the beach, lol, but long trips, basically anytime I think I might have a chance to use it, or a need to, I have it with me just in case. There's been a number of times where it's never come out of it's case, but it's reassuring knowing that if I need to use it, it's available for my use. That's really the whole point of having a laptop, the convenience of computing anywhere on the go. [Quirkly]
You're right. Your laptop, as well as being your email and your tool to chat with friends is a complete entertainment center. You can watch movies, play games and music, as well as get information on interesting places around you. Thanks for your response. [mipen2006]
Hey, i guess the reason why it is called vacation is for you to enjoy. not to sit n your hotel room and try to respond to the discussions here on mylot(hehehe). anyway, i won't bring my laptop (if i have one) on a vacation (if i will be, in the near future). that will just be silly. i could bring my digital camera and my psp for entertainment while traveling but not my laptop. [michael_nonan]
As I said in the previous comment, it's more than a business machine, it's a complete entertainment center. [mipen2006]
Well I dont have a laptop. If I had one would have taken it out when i go for vacation. It is useful to have a laptop when on vacation because when I am bored or something I can take it and play games or chat with someone or even use mylot for a while. The only problem with taking the laptop is that we need to hold it always otehrwise someone may steal it.And it should be protected from water. So if i purchase a laptop i will be thinking about that first -whether to take it out or whether to keep it inside the home. Most probably i would keep it inside my home until it is no longer new to me.WHen i gets a little older I would think of take it out when i am on vacation. There are a variety of opinions here, but I think when the actual time comes, most people would take their laptop with them. I am taking mine next week when I go to Australia for ten weeks, but I'm staying with my daughter, so it should be safe. [mipen2006]
If we ever go on a trip of any kind, I like to take my computer with me. I can do typing and work while on the road. When we stay at a hotel that has Wi-Fi, I can go on the internet and keep up with my discussions on myLot. [CRSunrise]
Most hotels here in Thailand that I know have Wi-Fi, so you can get the latest news, be sntertained even when you don't feel like going out. [mipen2006]
I take my laptop with me because I am workaholic and when on Vacations I am still working....this is what is happening with self employed people...ninja [polachicago]
you are right. I guess I was talking about my past. My health issue is not gone and I am working only 3 days a week now. As far as vacation, I am taking days off to enjoy my (cold Chicago) days out....happy [polachicago]
I take my laptop as well. I just need it for everything. I have the broadband internet to where I can use it wherever I am. I hate not knowing where I'm going and getting lost and with my laptop it won't be too bad. I also download my pictures of my camera onto my computer that way it doesn't build up too much and I have to wait a long time for all of them to download. I like to type a lot as well, so I like to type about each day and so forth. [kvnnashty]
