For me it depends on where I am going. If it is a place new that I am going to, I will spend more since there are things there that I may have not seen before or made differently, especially out of the country. If I have been there before, I don't spend too much other than on food and entertainment. Do you go all out while on vacation or are you careful about how much you spend? Does it depend on where you go as well?

This is true that you can not determine how much you are going to spend or what you will spend it on since you do not know what to expect. If we are on a tight budget, than we have to resist some of the temptations of what we buy while on vacation. [kgwat70]

When I have gone on vacation, I have been pretty good at alloting myself enough to be able to buy things that I know I will want to do. So, I am pretty good about not spending too much. I often find that I have set aside too much thinking I would spend more. LOL But I also have never been to another country. Usually we overspend, but not so much that we regret it. We tend to usually stay wtihin what we alloated or go over just a bit...it does depending to where we are going. If its somewhere we go quite often, then most likely we won't overspend. I definitely overspend. I buy things I normally wouldn't buy. Most of my "spending" isn't on dining out and such, we tend to do that "cheaply" but my spending is on extras for the kids like souveniers and going to special places that perhaps we have to pay to get in to. With my budget we tend to do "mini vacations" only a few hours away for the day and then come home. Saves on dining expenses because we can usually pack a nice picnic lunch and then eat out at only 1 place. No costs for hotels and we look for free stuff to do or low cost. It's a nice way to get away for an entire day without breaking the bank. [hockeygal4ever]

I went to New Orleans about three weeks before Katrina hit and i overspent. I went about two hundred dollars over what i expected to spend. I like to be cautious on how much I spend even if im on vacation. When I go on vacation I bring a set amount with me that will allow me to spend without overspending or underspending. You have to be careful though, because you never know when you are going to have to spend extra money for something unexpected. I also believe it depends where you go as well. In my case it is the number of friends accompanying me. Whatever amount I take with me, I always fall short of t. I can't wait my friends to make their minor payments and always take the lead.
