Do You Use Hotel Towels And Bathrobes Is It Totally Clean

Hello, fellow mylotters. Have you ever wonder how hotel and resort owners washed their towels and bathrobes? is it totally clean and free from germs? do they autoclave their towels, robes and bedings? like what hospitals usually do? hmmm... I'm just curious because sometimes I'm too lazy to bring my own towel and robe.

I never take my own towel when I am not going on a beach holiday. I always use the hotel towels. I am never questioned whether it is sanitary if I am honest. Of course they clean their linen on a regular basis, towels included. And, I have never stayed anywhere that provided robes, apart from on a day visit to a spa once but then, it was clean robes and your own pair of slippers which you could take away with you - that was great! Whenever i got for a stay in hotels i never use any towles or bath robes that they provide i dont like it, it kinda dont look hygenic actually.I carry my own stuffs because i dont feel like using thier things, i agree for rest and even i go to hotels only which got a clean room and bathrooms because i dont like dirty rooms at all. [Archie0]

Depends on the hotel, honestly. A five star hotel surely won't attempt to save a few coins in detergent just to risk being caught off guard with dirty towels and robes, whereas some lower grade ones may just try to skimp collectively on the washing as much as possible and they follow a policy of "Not too dirty, then it's good as clean.". Whenever you're planning to go on traveling, if you don't make reservations ahead of time or do plan in making reservations, look around in sites. There are numerous sites that have numerous reviews of a large number of hotels... you can try to see the ones on the area or the one you specifically want to book rooms for and see what kind of hotel you're getting on that field. I prefer not to use hotel stuff. I've seen some pretty disgusting stuff in some hotels, even those that claim quality service, but either I'm just unlucky or it's too many coincidences. [KomiKomi]

I know hotel towels and bath robes are cleaned very cleaned.. Why? My younger brother used to be one of them. Person in charge changing beddings, bath robes, hotel towels and all the clothing things needed to dry up the customer. Let me elaborate the work of my younger brother to you as a Hotel Washer. Once he start his duty. He directly check the pending clothes that wasn't finished by his shift mate. Segregation, Planting, Washing, Checking for possible stains. Once this is all finished. Hanging the clothes is the second hardest one. Imagine! You will hang over the Biggest Blanket outside by yourself. and the rest follows. If this all finished. Your not still done. You will proceed upstairs for make up check for every rooms. That you could possibly get the used cloths of the customer and start all over again at Step 1. In short consideration to meticulous customer is highly prioritize as well as for other customer as well. And being Hotel Washer is not an easy job. Its was totally a draining energy work. I rarely use hotel towels for bathroom purposes especially if the hotel is not an expensive one. The towels and bathroom is uses by different people and even it is already laundry in a hot water and disinfectant. I do not trust it. i am better off bringing my own towel or buying a new one than depend on it. As I could imagine the things which many people have used it makes me lost my appetite. [neelianoscet]

I've worked in a hotel before and have had to help out with house keeping a couple of times. The towels really are clean. I mean they get washed each time they're used. It's the bed sheets you have to worry about. lol The comforters don't get washed for each new guest. It's gross, I know. But it's the policy for most hotels. I've never really been one to use the bathrobes in a hotel. We didn't have them at the hotel I worked in, so I really don't know how they're washed/taken care of. I would hope that they wash them each time a new guest arrives! Yikes. I don't worry too much about the towels because I've never had a problem with them being clean, so no, I wouldn't take my own towels to a hotel. [Jennlk84]

sadWhen I first started travelling in my student days, I used to stay in the cheapest places possible. All had towels, but rarely bathrobes. They were very basic, but usually clean. The towels were often better than the rooms that I have stayed in, that said, some were fairly primitive!shocked In recent years I have been able normally to stay in middle-range hotels, but once or twice a 4-star at bargain rates (allowing for low occupancy at weekends etc). I have never had problems with the linen not being clean. That said I have had problems with the linen not being available, but the hotel personnel are normally very understanding, and try to help as best they can. [astonysh]

I'm always lazy in bringing towels by my own, besides, it makes my luggage heavier. But I count on dressing service of the hotel I stay at. However, I must take my own robe, because it always fits with my body while the bathrobe in the booking room is too big. [coldmoon]

I always use hotel towels because I stay in a good hotels and I believe them. I think hotel towels are cleaner than your own because they have people who work this job. [Coxi20]

No i never use hotel towels and bathrobes..because i think..it not soclean..then i used my own towels...and it's comfortable to me..but ..if bychance i have not found my towels..then i use hotel towels. [anurag3786]

I worked in the hospitality business for a while and I was discusted to find out that although they do wash the towels and bathrobes and sheets no mater what they usually do not wash the comforter unless it is visably dirty. I always throw the blankets in the corner of my room and just use sheets to sleep with unless it is a very cold climate then I will request a "fresh blanket" they do not auto clave anything but that is really unecessary they do use bleach and extremely hot water which is what most hospitals use. I worked in a pretty nice hotel that featured only suites but I could only imagine what they do at motel 6 or some of the cheaper places. [slaveofsensation]

Well, a hotel is sort of like a public place, so I guess the towels and bathrobes can't be a hundred percent clean, but it's probably as close as they can possibly get it. I always use hotel towels when I go on vacation, because towels take up a lot of space in a suitcase and it's just much easier to use the hotel ones. We always bring our own facecloths though, we never use the hotel ones. That just shows that you can trust the hotel towels, but only to an extent. I guess that just never bury your face in their towels and you should be fine. They wash their linens almost daily so I'm pretty sure that it should be fine, I'm just more concerned that the maids might contaminate it slightly when they're distributing the towels into the rooms. That's all. And as for bathrobes, I've never used them before, but my parents have so I think that they're okay. [reichiru]

I will use the hotel towels and stuff. They have their own laundry room right there onsite, you can even peek into it. I did that one time! LOL So I know they wash their things. The only thing that I am not sure they wash is the bedspread. I have heard they don't wash the bedspread in between guests. I don't know this for a fact though but since I am not sure, I don't use it. Usually the rooms are too warm anyway so I never need a heavy blanket or bedspread. But I do feel comfortable using the rest of the hotel's things. [horsesrule]

i never use the hotel towels and bathrobes.if i travel to some places i will take my private towels, bathrobe and slippers with me. make sure keep a good habit that you can protect yourself well. [peace001]

hi simonnelee Yes Of course I use that When I'm on the hotel Because is clean.. and is not dirty Is okey to me to use that towel is totally free and very clean towel. [jen14ed]

No. I don't use any other towel but only my own towel. Maybe because I always have the feeling that the towels that hotels provide for their customers are not that clean. It maybe looks clean but I don't know...I just don't feel like using them. [ced_cap]

I don't usually bring my own robe and towels because they take up so much room in my suitcase. I have never come across a dirty towel or robe; I can tell that they are clean, they look and smell fresh. I check the bed sheets as well and only once we happened to get a room that had not yet being cleaned from the previous client. We complained and received and apology and a clean new room immediately (I should think so!). I haven't had any other bad experiences as everything is usually very clean; the only thing that concerns me is the bed spread; I wonder how often they change those... [paula27661]

This is a good topic. I am a person who takes many trips and stays in hotels. Till now, I have used all the towels given in various hotels. But, now only I am thinking about the hygienic factor of it. I think all the hotels give only clean towels for their customers to use, but we can't blidly judge on it. It is better to keep a towel with us and use it in order to avoid unnecessary infection. [daliaj]

i do not used to bring my own towels and robes with me when i go out for a trip. although i know that the towels in hotel is not that clean, so there is one way to solve this problem, you can live in a better hotel, i think it is more sanitary. [buping]

when we think up the HIV,it cause us scared, and HIV is the famous virus which spread from hotel,so it is better to bring our own towels to hotel if we are not sure and it is convenient to you take along our own towel.I have a customer from Taipei, everytime she come to inspect goods, she will take all her daily necessities here, including her reading lamp, coffee cup,all the towels, bedsheet and bathobers.... she is the strictest woman who I met in my lifetime. [maggie8567]

I guessed I just used them. I expect housekeeping to keep them clean. Do not think too much of these linens. After all ,things in a hotel are all used by others before you. Some may even have diseases! I do not know of autoclaving but strict hygiene is practiced by good hotels. [jonjee0203]

Wow, I never use the towel or bathrobe in the hotel, no matter the common hotel or five-star hotel, in my deep sense, it is not clear for the washing ware there and they did not sanitize utterly that I am scared to use. Maybe the horrible sense came from one of my friends after she got the social disease after checked in the 5 star hotel and her boy friends broke up with her just becaused he suspect of her affairs. No matter how she explained that her bf did not trust as it is impossible to catch that kind of sexual disease just living in the hotel. Maybe my friend should not use the bathrobe there whilst she happend to the MC period. [sasalove]
Then you have to bring along your own stuff and add to the luggage and do the laundry too for prolonged trips... sad [lordwarwizard]

i too have the same questions when using the towels and bathrobes in hotels... they do wash them but then i still wonder who might have used it last!! gives me creeps enough...i prefer using my own towels and bathrobe. Makes me feel safe. [hiniptl]

hi simon, i think they are clean, and i am using them everytime we have our out of town adventures with my friends and my family.. we are talking about the reputation of the hotel in here.. so i think they know that, and having a clean things specially towels, pillows and blankets should be there number one standards to have a better serving to the customers...happy janebeth. [janebeth]

Well we wouldn't have a clue if they were not clean. I should think *most* respectable hotels would put adequate emphasis on the treatment of used towels. As travelers, I think assuming otherwise would put a damper on your days. rasp The best we can do is to inspect the towels and bathrobes with our senses. If they pass the eye and nose check, I would just use them. After all, bring your own towels will just add to your luggage. As for bathrobes, you can do without since you can change into your clothes straight. Unless of course you are using them as your pajamas... then you can bring along your own pajamas if you are so inclined or sleep in the buff - but then, we would start thinking if the bedsheets are clean and so on lol... Traveling is not without its risks. rasp [lordwarwizard]

Yeh I use hotel towels when ever I stay at a hotel. They are washed before you get it so I guess they should be pretty clean. I have always found my towels to be fresh, and have never thought about germs etc. I dont think the cleaning process is as good as it is in hospitals, but I think its good enough. Hospitals need to clean more throughly because theres all types of things falling on them. [Mac6999]

Yes I use the towels provided by hotels. One time we had the chance to tour the laundry area of a Five Star Hotel as part of our training in one of the Caregiving classes. I must say that they really clean the beddings and the towels of the guests really well. They have huge machines and pressing machines which do the work. [jules67]

Well it depends on what type of hotel. For expensive hotels they really make sure that they clean the towels. But in small hotels that usually don't have star ratings and unknown, I am dubious if they clean the towels. [anne25penn]

I only use the towels, I feel uneasy using the bathrobes, it's like using another person's underwear... hehehe! [Tantrums]

Yes. I assume that the towels are clean because the hotel is also clean. =) [ktynnz]

dear, There is no harm in usinsa hotel towel but you should take care about the standard of the hotel. In a five star hotel otimum care is taken to maintain the hygine and service. But as you might have seen in the c grade or other general hoel which provide cheap services and to maintain their cheapness they compromise with the other qulities. They have to do so to survive in this cut throat competetive market. [dadhich76]

I don't bring my own towels when I stay in a hotel. Sometimes I use the robes but usually I don't. Here where I live there is "The day of the open doors" once a years when places that are usually closed whow what is going on in their establishments. I want to the open doors of a hotel in town. We were shown the laundry and how the sheets, towels and robes were washed and sanitized. I was satisfied they are clean and germ free. However, when staying in a hotel I immediately take off the bedspread and put it in the closet and don't touch it again, since it is not changed with each guest and test have shown it contains the grossest things. Also I cover each chair with a clean towel since people sit naked on these chairs. When I carry a box of wet wipes with me I wipe down the telephone and remote control since I cannot be sure the maids did that since they only get so many minutes to clean each room. I also wash out the drinking glasses even though they might be wrapped in a paper wrapper, giving them appearane of being sterile, which they might not be. [Lindalinda]

we dont bring our towels for it gets heavy when you bring it home wet. so far i can say that it is clean and germ free. i have relatives that works on hotels and they can say that they also iron the towels before folding. so i dont think there is something to worry about. maybe not as disinfected like the hospital beddings but i can say it is clean [roniroxas]

Hi simonelee! I don't really know if they autoclave their towels/beddings but I guess they do clean it well. Besides, cleanliness shouldn't only end in those towels/beddings, it should also extend to the hotel's surroundings. So even if they do autoclave them, it won't do any good if the hotel floors/ceilings/walls/beds aren't sanitized. This being said, I guess it also usually follows that expensive hotels have good, if not the highest, quality of cleanliness. [veronizm]

Me I always bring my own towel but I also use hotel towel. As long I have good impression with that hotel I use their towel.. We have a laundry business so..The way the towel smell sometimes is enough to judge if its good to use or not.. Also don't use towel that is already in your room..Call room server and ask for a new one.. [bulastika]

i've worked in several hotels- they normally throw them in industrial grade washers with high bleach content soap. the water temp is high enough to not have to worry. bathrobes on the other hand-i would recommend you bring your own.unless they're damp or dirty to the eye, sometimes they will be reused, just like blankets. gross, but they do do it. the best way to make sure you have a fresh blanket is to call down on arrival and ask for an "extra" blanket. [scarlet_woman]

I have been to hotel like hilton, marriot and so on and have always foudn the towels and bathrobes to be clean and excellent. And it is also their policy to provide germ free stuff to their guests , which indirectly is reflected in your bills. I never carried these stuff while travelling when staying in quality hotels. You could possible check the concerned hotel reviews and decide about it.Worse case you can carry some of them. Thanks!
