Do You Visit Museums When You Go On Vacation

Do you visit museums when you go on a vacation? There are so many neat museums to see in almost every city. And a number of them give you free admission. Others have very low admission fees. A lot of people only think about amusement parks, ballgames, shows and such. But, I like to find out what other types of things that a city has to offer. What about you? What do you like to do on vacation? Do you go fishing? Swimming? Whitewater Rafting - ooooh!

I love going to museums!! I'm actually on a business trip with my fiancee right now. When we head to the next city, I'm going to visit the zoo and science museum there! It'll be something fun and cheap to do. I can't wait. [Jennlk84]
I love zoos and science museums. Some cities even offer free admission to these type of attractions, that makes them even better. Because you know me, anything that is free! Thank you for your response in this discussion, and have a great trip! [kykidd]

Museums are wonderful! We take our kids to them all the time. Like you said, they are free most of the time which is great for us right now. Other kids always talk about amusement parks and big fancy things, but I like stuff that is informational. We like to look for the little museums that don't have much but a story to tell. It is interesting what you can find out. [sherono]
That is so true, they can be so informative. I wished I would have had the opportunity to do stuff like that when I was a kid. Don't get me wrong, amusement parks are fun, but I am just now learning a lot of things that I should have known when I was a kid. I also think that the information kind of sticks with you a little better if you see a hands on display. I may have gotten a better grade in US History, if I would have visited Gettysburg as a kid, instead of waiting until my adult life. LOL Thanks for the response and enjoy! [kykidd]

One of the things my wife and I do is to look for wineries in the places we visit. We enjoy sampling the local wine and many times you get to meet some very interesting people. I also like to photograph lighthouses so if we are near the coast I look for them. Often they will have a museum connected to them. Some you can still go up to the light and that is a great view. [bobmnu]
I have seen lighthouses in my travels, but have never had the opportunity to go up inside of one. I bet that is interesting, plus like you say, a great view. I am one who will also stop by wineries while I am traveling, and sometimes we will just take a day and go to about 2 or 3 wineries and a farm market or such. I have been doing this for over 15 years, and the funny thing is that I learned more in one of my recent visits this Spring that I did in all of those years. I guess I just lucked out to get someone who really wanted to teach. Thanks for the response and have fun! [kykidd]

Hi Kykidd, I think it's a very good idea to visit the museums when you travel to different countries or cities. You can understand the history and the culture by visiting the museums. I have some friends who love to visit the museums, you will be so surprise to see all the creations from the past. i think i will do that if i ever travel far again! Thanks for the reminder! [vivianchen]
Sometimes I wished the museums in our city were free admission. There are some really neat mansions here, and I would love to explore my city a little more. I have taken a vacation in my hometown once, and did get to see a tremendous auto museum. I will do this again, sometime in the near future, I hope. Thanks for your response and remember, May all of your travels be...Lots of fun and mostly free! [kykidd]

Yes, I visit museums! I think they're so educational, and nothing's better than the experience of getting oh-so fascinated with something you might have missed during class. But then again, there are other things too. I also like going outdoors. Trying new watersports is really exciting! Have you ever tried wakeboarding? It's like surfing, but with a smaller board, and you have to hold on to a guiding string. Google it up. A really great place to try it is Camarines Sur, Philippines. :) [ragenepalma]
Hi Ragenepalma, and thank you very much for your response in this discussion. Wakeboarding sounds like a lot of fun. I haven't been around an ocean at warm enough temperatures to try that or surfing. I usually just enjoy the waves if I am there, and it is warm enough to get in the ocean. Thanks for the education on the subject. Now if someone brings it up in conversation, I will know what they are referring. Have a wonderful day! [kykidd]

Of course it depends where I go for a vacation. But if I go to a mayor city, I immediatly ask the tourist information office where are the museaums and ask for brochures if they have them. At some other places, the importance lies in nature. And sometimes it is not inside a museum where you most learn. [marguicha]
Oh Marguicha, that is so true. Some cities have waterfalls, which I think are some of the most beautiful sites in the world. And some places have old log cabins and such where famous people were born or raised. There is so much to do almost everywhere. That is why I enjoy traveling so much! Thank you for your input, and have a wonderful day! [kykidd]

I think museums are pretty fun to go to like the ones in D.C. and i was just out in San Diego and checked out a couple of the museums out there. Balboa Park museum was really cool and so was the San Diego air and space museum. But most of the time when i go on vacation i just go out to the beach and relax, so i dont have any kind of schedule. [Koxtal08]
That sounds like a great way to travel. I have been to Balboa Park only once. I enjoyed the park, but didn't have a chance to go into the more popular museums, although I have studied them a little bit. I have been to D.C. as well, but only for a day trip. I didn't get to do much except visit the Capital. Although, I did drive by the Washington Monument. There are so many free museums in Washington D.C., that I think you could spend a week or so visiting there. Thank you for your response in this discussion, and have a wonderful day. [kykidd]

No. I visit museum only when i had a study tour with my school. When i vacation, i always spent my time at some interesting place such as beach and crowded place. [anggareds]
A lot of people enjoy the beach when they are traveling. I think it is beautiful. I could sit or walk on the beach for hours if the weather permits. I also enjoy amusement parks and such. I just love to travel in general, I guess. Thanks for the input, and enjoy your day myLotting! [kykidd]

My last trip was to South Africa. In Cape Town I visited a Jewish museum and an art gallery. Along the Garden Route I went to a maritime museum. Last year in the Baltic Countries I visited some Jewish museums. Cities offer walks where I can enjoy looking at historic buildings. I love to go up to a view point where I can take photos. I like to go to parks and gardens. Sometimes I can visit a castle. I especially like to go to tropical beaches where I can do some snorkeling around the colorful reef. I like adventure more than I appreciate relaxation. Typically on a trip I visit at least five different places like a city, a beach, the countryside, a town and an island. [maximax8]
Thank you for your response here in this discussion, Maximax8! It sounds like you do a lot of traveling. I wished I had been to so many places. I have never been snorkeling, but have a friend that went for the first time in Hawaii this past January. She said it was simply wonderful, an amazing site. There were even huge turtles swimming around her. I bet this was tremendous. I am thrilled if I simply get to see dolphins when I go to the beach! Thanks again and happy traveling! [kykidd]

It depends on the vacation. But so far since being married I have taken two vacations with my spouse and on both we did visit a museum or two. We aslo like to do alot of outdoors types of things like hiking, fishing and the such. [jmhall]
I do enjoy nature just as much too. As a matter of fact, I have been gathering photos of different animals that I have seen in just the last 2 months. They include: rabbits, groundhogs, frogs, birds, and deer. It has been a pleasant stay at the house I am in now, too bad I will be moving by the end of the month. The wildlife here is excellent. Enjoy your day, and thank you for responding in this discussion! [kykidd]

I love to go visit museums in foreign countries as I like to get an idea of that country's history. I like doing all the other stuff too, but in order to appreciate the culture of a city, I think you do need to check out local museums to get a deeper understanding. [UK_Shree]
Thanks UK_Shree, for your response in this discussion. I think you have a good point about learning about the history of the city or town that you are visiting. That would especially be helpful if you are visiting a foreign country. I have never visited any museums when I have done what little foreign travel that I have done. It usually was group involved, or transportation was an issue. Then again, there are times that I may have just possibly not thought about it. Thanks again, and have a wonderful day! [kykidd]

When I visit a new town I usually visit some of the museums. I am an artist and I love to visit art museums and other kinds of museums. I also like to visit some of the different galleries. I am interested in architechture, too, and when I visit a new town I like to walk around and look at the different houses. I like to go swimming at the beach and I like to enjoy the sunshine, but I am not the kind of person who can spend weeks at the beach, a day or two at the beach is enough for me. [Porcospino]
The different architecture of cities can be quite educational. Especially if you consider buildings that were built in the 1800's and others that were built more recently. It is amazing how some of the old buildings are still standing. Boston is one of my favorite cities for enjoying the architecture. Thank you for your response in this discussion Porcospino, and have a good day! [kykidd]

I like some museums. I love natural history museums, where you can see dinosaur bones, and prehistoric animal exhibits. But I'm not really interested in train museums, or war museums and things like that. [megumiart]
I think I enjoy just about any kind of museum that there is available. I may not stay in some as long as I do others. I just like to enjoy a little something, and learn a little something different from time to time. I really enjoy the old Civil War sites. It is neat to see where battles took place, and the museums are usually brief and to the point. Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a great day myLotting! [kykidd]

It depends on the city I am visiting. When we go to DC we love to visit all the museums. In NYC we go to the museum of natural history. They are great and are an inexpensive way to spend a day. We also will do maybe a minor league ball game or car race. something the locals would do. Maybe a flea market or carnival too. [TrvlArrngr]
Funny, speaking of travel, I just noticed your screen name. TrvlArrngr, very creative. I like that! My mother cannot pass by a flea market. She loves to shop for good deals, and she also sells used items and more at a local flea market in the county where I grew up. She would rather go to a store or flea market, than to a museum any day of the week. LOL Thank you for your response and have a great day on myLot! [kykidd]
