Last year I got to go to Mexico on a Princess cruise.
The name of the ship is the Sapphire Princess.
My girlfriend and son went with me, and I have to admit, that is probably the one time I actually felt being on vacation that was luxurious.
There was absolutely nothing you could want for.
And for all that was free on that ship just amazed me.
Gayle and I took our cross stitch and would sit up by the pool and watch everyone and stitch happily away on the days the boat was cruising.
I so look forward to another cruise...I am planning one for next fall, unless I decide to wait til 2009 and do the Alaskan cruise. have not made my mind up.
Have you ever taken a cruise and if so what ship line and how much did you enjoy it?
would love to hear your stories as well!

Sure, I have taken quite a lot of cruises, probably dozens. They as just short get-aways, cruise to nowhere (like my life lol). They are fine, and it's just a break from normal drudgery and tedium of life. The food is decent too and cruises just make you fat with the all you can eat buffets everywhere. [lordwarwizard]
I like it when they serve new things. But I like it too when they always reserve my favorite for supper - the fish and chips without the chips - one item on the buffet menu. I can gobble 10 of them before I start feeling guilty.:P [lordwarwizard]
oh marie...as you know I have been left alone for my summer holidays this year..I was so happy I could travel with my beloved friend but she got a new job and so she has no holiday this summer!!! And I am just here thinking about what to do and where to go...and one of the idea is to go on a cruise..I have never been on a cruise and maybe I won't feel too lonely on a cruise ship and seeing that I love the sea..I think I would love the idea of watching at the sea at night..so funny to come here and see this discussion of yours!!!! I don't know what will happen in the end..but I promise to tell you as soon as I arrange something [maribea]
Marie, You already know how I feel about crusies.LOL!No I have never had one.But I have always wanted to do an Alaskan cruise. NEVER going happen. Those are REALLLY pricey. But it would be so worth it. [natrlvr2]
I am actually not very keen on taking cruises unless it is on a megaship. The reason is I did a 2-year stint in the Navy when I was 18 years old, and I was sailing on warships then, so going on a ship is not exactly something I really look forward to. But I did do a cruise-fly programme once on a midsized cruise ship. I cruised 2 nights to an island in Thailand, then disembarked and spent another 2 nights at a beach resort before flying home. The best part of the cruise was the meals, because onboard you can eat many meals non-stop. There was also the casino and night entertainment, including movies round the clock. I also remembered taking part in a table-tennis competition on board and won a tournament. But the prize awarded was nothing great. Overall it was a good experience, but I have not gone on another cruise since then. I'd rather fly for a holiday, or drive my car if it is to a neighbouring destination. [lexus54]
Ah, it looks like we have common experience. Navy ships are indeed very cramped with narrow hallways, unlike cruise ships. It's not exactly a luxury to be sailing on board a Navy warship. [lexus54]
I have never been on a cruise, though it's something I think I would enjoy. But it's not in the budget anytime in the foreseeable future, *sigh*. [BarBaraPrz]
hi maries, i am not sure whether i am supposed to respond to this or not as i haven't been on a cruise as yet!! your description is alluring, just like your cross stitches, vienam war...lol. hoping to plan for one. thanx for sharing. smiles... [mimpi1911]
I would love to take a cruise, but I am afraid to. I am afraid of a hotel floating in an ocean and have a an episode where the ship sinks like the Titanic. I would be so afraid, I would not have a good time, I think. It's funny that I don't mind flying at all, and the thought of crashing doesn't scare me. I figure if I crash my death will be instant, but I fear drowning terribly.. so I would be afraid of the ship. My adopted mom has asked me to go on a cruise with her and I have yet to say I will. I would love to not be afraid to do this. [charlene2350]
Well lets see...I can't swim LOL and I love water. I have been on so many boats all sizes. My ex and I got boatitis started with a 16 ft worked our way up to a 2155 Bayliner Ciera Sunbridge, then a 2855 Bayliner, and finally a 40 ft houseboat. I have a fear of learning to swim. So I use my life jacket. As you know I live by the ocean. I have yet to be afraid to get in...wierd huh? I have caught sting rays and brought to the shore to properly teach people about them. My son and I play along with the manta rays. its awesome I guess I have a fear of swimming and not the water? LOL you have no idea the boat is really moving til you look out If you are taking a cruise that hugs the shoreline so to speak, you will always see land in the distance. hazy but its there. I think the best experience I had was waking up to seals when we landed in Cabo San Lucas my girlfriend had the balcony door open and was sitting out there having coffee and I awoke to all the seals barking it was so neat. Take your mom up on it. I promise it will all be worth it! [maries1952]
Altogether, over the last thirty years I've probably been in eight cruises and they were all wonderful in their own way. There is nothing that beats them in terms of relaxation and pampering and you get to see several destinations at once which is hard to do with other kinds of vacations without having to take lots of planes, trains and automobiles. I loved the food and the way the staff meticulously waited on us. I would definitely take another cruise, but would love to go to the Greek isles. [wachit14]
I would like to do a transatlantic cruise myself. I think it would be heaven to wake up in Italy one day. and another country the next! I watch the prices closely But I think my next excursion will be Alaska Thanks for sharing. [maries1952]
hi, I´ve never been on a cruise, well, in Portugal i´d taken the ship one or two times, but i do not think i could talk about as a cruise (i mean as your) [verdurilla]
Yes I've been on 3 cruises and plan to go on many more. I've been to Jamacia and the Bahamas twice. These are the best vacations I've ever taken. The booking price was not so bad, and if I could stay out of the Casino are I didn't spend to much money. In my opinion you get the most for you money on a Cruise. You can pretty much do whatever you want, eat whatever you want, and go anywhere you want. Being on the water is very refreshing. You can spend most of your day at sea walking around, meeting others or just relaxing on the deck. Most of the personnel are very friendly. I can't think of 1 negative experience outside of motion sickness, that I had while on the ship. Even the motion sickness only lasted a couple of hours. If I recall correctly, I just went and slept it off. A cruise to Alaska sounds awesome. I think I'll put that on my list of thing to go/do... [rdougl]
My wife and I have planned a cruise to Mexico, and the south Carribeans. I'll have to squeeze in the Alaska trip some how. It would be great to see some mylot friends. lol [rdougl]
I've never been on a cruise, but I've always wanted to go. I've read stories and seen movies about such trips, and I've always find them amusing. Taking a cruise is actually part of my to do list. Hopefully I do get to cross that out some time in the future. [kkaren]
I have taken already a cruise but it is only a short trip. I really love riding on it but sad to say I feel dizzy when I rode there. I feel like puking whenever the cruise experienced big waves. [Megzzz]
hi maries1952 my first cruise was Virgo Star Cruise 5 years ago it sailed from singapore to malaysia to thailand and then back to singapore again we sailed for 8 days it was fun, the ship had lots of recreation spots, such as cinema, casino, greek swimming pool, shopping arcades, etc at first i was afraid that the ship would be the same as Titanic and sinked but it is safe because the route is following the coast line and different from titanic which acrossing the ocean thanks.. [unuzzz]
Wow you were in some beautiful country! That would be an awesome cruise. Thanks so much for sharing! [maries1952]
