I'vee been in a hotel for so many times...
used their glasses for many times yet i have no idea before of this yucky thing...
why they are not making it sure it is safe and clean?
does nobody check on their operations?
fortunately, i've been not sicked...
but hope they will stop this method...

I think there is more to worry about than the drinking glasses I saw a documentary on TV where these people went to many motels and some very big 5 star hotels and ran an infra red light over the bedspreads and sheets and they found many things, in some plces it was very clear the sheets and things had not been changed...it turned me right off from staying in hotels or motels... Perhaps what you could do is to bring one of those portable ultra violet light device with you. And if you are staying in a reputable hotels, you could actually complain and really really request them to thoroughly clean the room. They definitely will do it to keep their name. Though I doubt that higher class hotels are dirty as they need to pass a certain ISO standards. Also, occassionally, there will be a check from the ISO to keep on par with the ISO standards issued. As for motels.. oh well... you get what you paid for. [cooldude_no1]

Yes I seen that and it was sick.Also them cleaning the glasses with a blue solution is also very scary.Especially if it is window cleaner.Your not supposed to drink that stuff let alone ou get some off of the glass the clean it with.I would hope the saftey inspectors or whoever their called would crack down on this.I know they dont keep enough workers as its a hard job but still people should think how would they feel if their family had to sleep in the room or drink out of a dirty glass etc.? This is gross! Delgar, I hardly drink from glasses in a normal hotel. I drink it direct from mineral water bottles. However, how much do this big star hotels care, I doubt. Couldn't open the link it's still buffering. Thanks for sharing. [mimpi1911]

Ya in some places it is like that. But you see the cleanness and hygiene will be different according to the standards of hotel. So don't feel that all the hotel are alike. according to the standards the price will also increase [jothis]

Yeah it's pretty gross if you think about it...if you never knew and never gotten sick then you wouldn't be so worry about it now...I use to not care about it...but after seeing what I saw on the news and hearing all these bad stories about the hotel/motel business gosh it makes not want to go any where far so that I won't have to stay over night at places like those... Oh my goodness! To think that happened at the big hotels! I'm wary about touching ANYTHING in oneof those low cost hotels but would never have thought twice about drinking out of a glass at one of the big hotels! That really scared me! [SViswan]

Having worked in hotels I've seen both sides of the issue. Some of the guests are pretty nasty themselves. Everything like cups should be disposable. If they aren't, provide your own if the hotel doesn't. I think if people took an ultra violet light to their own bedspreads at home there would be just as many disgusting things. Also, while it would be nice to be able to clean every piece on the bed every day, it isn't always feasible. You can blame that on managment not the housekeeper. [irishidid]

OMG that is friggin disgusting. I usualyl clean the glasses before I use them anyways. I don't trust hotels. I went to one about 6 months ago and as I was going to bed I found blood all over my sheets so yea you need to check everything not just the glasses [StrawberryKisses]

I have never trusted that hotel glasses were cleaned properly. I use to feel bad about that but I don't have seeing that video. Thanks for posting it on here. It sure is gross and it reinforces what I have always felt to be true. When I have needed to use a glass in a hotel I have run in under the hot water for like 10 minutes before using and then using my own kleanex to wipe it dry. I hope that worked! Yeah I know about this. I used to work at a hotel. I always washed cups and dishes with hot soapy water like I do in my home and rinse them, but other maids I helped out would only rinse them out with hot water, I said don't you have to wash those and they would say no we just rinse them out. thats what we've been told to do. I couldn't believe that I had only worked for 1 month and they've worked their for years and they have that method and no conscious. I guess thats why I don't use silerware or cups from hotels. I use plastic that gets thrown away. I think its disgusting how maids don't care about the customers heath. [lizzyt2007]

i have to stay in hotel very less fequently. even when i stay, i take my line with me, i dont use the glasses they give, dont even drink the water they supply. i try to make my stay as short as possible so that i can get back to my home. [funfreak2k2]

I once worked cleaning rooms before, but this place they do not use glasses, they use plastic cups we will throw away when cleaning the rooms. I vacuumed all rooms and there was different cleaning solution for each purpose. They are not supposed to use toilet cleaning solutions to wash glasses or sink for example. Plus if the blue solution is windex, then the smell will stay in the glass. it's very distinct smell, if you smell this in the glass, don't use it. Period. Find Canoes for You here. The toilet on the other hand you won't know if they clean it with the right solution, because they also put fragrance by the toliet. [LittleMel]

I have also heard about the hotel rooms having glasses that are two ways. They also put the glasses with two ways in the bathrooms. It looks like a big glass in the bathroom while someone at other end someone watches or make movies of the girls in bathrooom. I have also heard that some hotel rooms having infrared cameras well hidden and recording the honeymoon couples. I think these kind of hotels licenses should be baned especially they are taking advantages of innocent people. I have also heard about some hotel guys making porn movies with hidden cameras in the hotels. [ajithlal]
Yikes! After watching this video, it confirmed my reluctance to use any of the utensils outside the home. I usually drink straight from the bottle and feel uneasy to transfer and pour to another glass whenever I am out. Or I would just rather use those plastic disposables. I am not quite sure about other Hotel on what are the things they've been doing in there utensils but I am in Hotel management in I am working for how many years in JW Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott Hotel here in Kuwait and I am making all the stuff clean and I even assist them on how they have to clean those utensils........ Bro, thanks for highlighting this to me. I wouldn't know this at all and the video is a good one. It's really not fair when some hotels that do these kinds of things and they are having lots of money from customers all over the world. Yet they are doing this. So, it's a bit like unfair to hotel users. But I think that in the world of business, sometimes hygiene factors are forgotten. That's due to perhaps shortage of manpower and stuff like that. And hotels are wanting to cut costs, they would resort to low ways like that. However, Ritz Carlton is one of the best hotels that I've been to, and whenever I go traveling, I would make it a point to look for Ritz Carlton first. Some have Butter Churners. I have a friend that cleans motel rooms for a living, she is only allowed about 20 minutes per room to clean after someone leaves. Now think about 15 minutes,it would take how long to just strip the bed and remake it. Then there is dusting and carpet to vaccum, waste paper baskets to empty, we still haven't gotten to the bathroom or the sink area yet. I don't know who has been in the tub the night before or what they carried in with them. There is still the tub to clean, the toliet to clean, the floor to mop. She said they are told to spray it down with like spi*ck & span when they go in and then spray it off when they finish the other chores, to me this is not clean. Most places has drinking glasses that are in wrappers, sealed up so no one has used them before me, I won't use a glass that is not in a plastic wrapper. My daughter has Bye Lo B Babies.And I always have a can of disenfectant with me I spray in the bathroom before i use it. Soem awful things happen in hotel rooms and I try to pick a nice decent motel to stay in one that I feel cares about their guest. But what I'm saying is you can't clean a room in 15 or 20 minutes and get it clean from the night before. [bdugas]
