By car, boat, plane, train?
Obviously it depends on where you're going, but I really do love to be on planes, especially international flights.
I flew to Austria on Austrian airlines in 2006, going overseas for the first time, and the service was great, the food was great, having free alcohol was great =P
I also quite like trains, especially through really nice country scenery =)
And I'm big fan of walking when I just need to get from point a to b, I let my... legs do the walking =P
How do you like to get around when you're going out or away?
Any travelling plans for this year?
I'm going to visit my sister in Sydney in June, it'll be her first winter away from home =)

I've never been on a train for long trips(subways don't count). I get motion sickness so any form of travel is hard for me. I usually prefer to travel by car. I used to fly before Sept. 11th(I hated it but I did it), but since then I get panic attacks at just the thought of going on a plane. I also love to walk. I am originally from NY & when I wasn't taking a bus or a train I walked everywhere. [robsbrooklyngirl]
It's funny, buses and cars are really the only thing I get motion sickness in, and it can get really bad - especially in vehicles with bad ventilation, and yet I'm really comfortable in planes. My dad always tells me how proud he is of me for being the first to go overseas and to happily fly - since childhood he's had terrible nightmares about being in a plane, and has never been in one, although he did take a joy ride in a helicopter last year, which made me so happy =D He really loved it, too. I love it when I go to the city and absolutely everything is within walking distance. Living in a rural kind of coastal town in Australia basically means ordinary shopping centres, over-priced movie tickets and over-priced public transport, which ends in staying at home =P Thanks for your response! =D [Malyck]
I have often traveled by plane,to a few countries so far also by train and bus and I liked them all. Of course, the plane is the faster and most comfortable of all but I like long scenic routes by train or bus as well:)I do like the food on planes but have no need for the free alcohol as I don't drink at all. I used to walk often too but became too lazy nowadays...should actually start again cause I'm getting way too fat now ... LOL .. [Marleysa]
Well I'm having one of my coldest ever Autumn's in Australia, and I'm assuming that it can only get worse the closer we get to Winter =P I do like to wear lots of big layers and cook stews and curries, though. I hope you enjoy many a spring evening walk this spring =) [Malyck]
Hello Malyck I prefer to choose boat, I don't know why but I like boat very much than any other vehicle. So nature and cool for me LOL. I can smell the sea, feel the water and I really enjoy every single minutes inside the boat. God bless you *angel www.beautycosmetictips.com [little_angel]
I quite like boats also, although I've only really been on a big ship once. My family and I took a trip to Tasmania on a lovely cruise ship in 2000, and it was an amazing experience. I know what you mean about feeling very natural, with the smell and spray of the sea. It makes me want to walk on the sands of the beach right now, but it's cold and 2 in the morning, so I better not =P Maybe later in the day. Thanks for your input and have a great day =) [Malyck]
One of my goals is to travel around the world and I want to that by train by car by boat and foot. [as2006]
Well, I wish you the best of luck with this goal, and I hope the same for myself. It's always been something that I've wanted to experience, and I hope that I can save enough money to travel to see and experience all our world has to offer =) [Malyck]
Cool :) Well yes I would have to say by plane for the most part. I actually enjoy being in planes usually .. Except when you are beside annoying/weird people who snore or smell funny or something haha. Therefore, I prefer to travel on a plane but with a friend or a family member. Also, I enjoy travelling by car as long as it is comfortable and I am not the one driving! I like to look at the scenery of different places while listening to music.. :) [grunge_avenged]
I agree about weird/smelly/snoring people, but that kind of goes for any form of transport. I suppose overseas flights are the worst though, if you get stuck next to someone unpleasant. I like to be in the car as long as there's some natural air coming in, some music that I love and I am able to watch the road, and preferably sit in the front passenger's seat. Otherwise I feel really uneasy. Thanks for your response =) [Malyck]
Most of all I love to travel by train and looking out of the window in the day time I enjoy seeing the passing scenery. I like to sleep in a comfortable compartment in the night time. Then it is nice to arrive in my destination. The longest train journey that I have done was from Cairns to Brisbane in Australia and that train took about 36 hours. It was a wonderful train to travel on and it even had a club loco car on it. The most exciting train trip that I have ever done was in Kenya when all the lights in the carriage failed and I didn't want to move to another. It was so great at breakfast time to see a giraffe out of the window. I like to fly sometimes because airfares, depending on destination, can be cheap and it is the only practical way to get to many faraway places. I like to get a window seat when possible and the best view from a plane window that I have seen was the pyramids of Egypt. I had a delightful flight on a small plane in the Maldives, seeing the beautiful reef and islands. I think that there is not much leg room available and with a trolley service it can be difficult to walk up and down the aisle. The airlines that I like most are Air New Zealand, Qantas and Virgin Atlantic. I hope that you have a great time in Sydney visiting your sister. [maximax8]
Still yet to go visit her unfortunately, almost 2 whole months left to wait - it's torturous to know that it's coming up but that you can't make it come any sooner =P No worries on the best response, you deserve it - you're well travelled and your stories are interesting. So many buses in so many countries! You should write the Bus Chronicles or something! =D [Malyck]
Planes are okay, despite my dislike of public flying (and just airports themselves nowadays -_-) Trains are good for scenic travel, but thats more in pocket places and other countries -_-. I'd prefer this one over public flying, but put me in a low flying plane or chopper and its a tie. Birdseye and trainside scenes are both great in my opinion... but thats just one side of travel. For efficiency, a good rail system would do. Driving has its freedom, yes but good grief... I question this "freedom" with the day to day traffic and having to deal with many people who don't know how to drive (or how to drive safe). Trains are safer and can go certain distances depending on the rail, but during key times there are crowds there too. Walking has its moments too of course. =3 [theprogamer]
Yeah, it is pretty neat. Someone should have told me when I went on a cruise as a youngster that I didn't need to take "All you can eat" literally, and I would have saved myself the run to the bathroom and the cleanup =P On the way back on that same ship, I stuck to cheese, crackers and ginger supplements =P [Malyck]
I have to say though i am afraid of heights i really do love planes hehe i wanted to be an R.A.F pilot not to long back, my girlfriend and the seriousness of our relationship is what is preventing me hehe [mattdan919]
Aww, haha, maybe you can book yourself or both of you in for a joy-flight some time, and then you won't be missing out too much =) My best friend has always wanted to be a pilot, but at this point in time is still unable because she's vision impaired. Thanks for your response! =D [Malyck]
It depends on where we're going too, but I do love traveling by car. Here in BC, there is some amazing scenery and I feel it's best seen by car, especially because there are usually many places we can stop and take photographs. I do love traveling by plane also, but if it's a long flight, I can get restless, especially because there's no place to really get up and stretch your legs a little bit. I also love Mountain hiking, something I like to try and get out and do in the summer months. The weather here is perfect for hiking in the summer, and the mountains are just alive! [angelwhispers30]
Hiking is pretty amazing, when I went to Tasmania with my family a number of years ago we did a lot of exploring, hiking and adventuring. I adore being able to see the wildlife up close and personal, and I love that special smell that nature has. I'm lucky enough to live just an hour's drive from a World Heritage area, in Dorrigo, Australia, although I don't go there enough. It's absolutely magical, and takes about 3 hours walking down, winding around the mountain to reach this gorgeous clearing and waterfall. I've got the travel bug now =P [Malyck]
I always like flying, it gets me faster where I am going! I never like long driving or trains as I get impatient easily. So when I go on holidays at least twice a year, I book flights and since I have free tickets after working with the airline for so many years, I get to go anytime and any place where the airline flies to. Cheers! [moolahmagnet]
Oh wow, I'd love to have worked with an airline and have all those perks. A close friend of the family worked for Quantas for 25 years as a steward, but unfortunately his health isn't too great these days, so he doesn't get to enjoy the perks so much now =( Feel free to take me along with you =P [Malyck]
I only travel by train in my country. I haven't ever traveled abroad. This summer I'm going to travel abroad by plane. Plane takes less time than others. But it's very expensive. [pooh08]
Oh, that's so exciting that you're going to be going overseas this year. Where will you be going? Plane is and isn't expensive, its definitely the cheapest way to go across long distances that would cost a fortune in buses, trains etc. I hope you have a great trip, wherever you're going! =D [Malyck]
yes it depends on where i am going. if its for short distance, i prefer to travel by taxi. if long distance i prefer mainly by plane. its less time consuming and so i like it. sometimes we also go by train though. [subha12]
Taxis are so expensive around here. I don't have my license yet, so when I don't have anyone to give me a lift around locally it costs me a LOT. Most places that I need to get to cost at least $18 by taxi, which just isn't affordable for regular trips. I really want to go on a holiday right now, with all this talk of travelling =P [Malyck]
i haven't experienced on traveling by plane so i guess i would try that but i prefer to travel by car [rhane7315]
Thank you for responding, and I hope that you enjoy your first trip by plan whenever that happens =D [Malyck]
I prefer to travel by plane. I do like to travel by train but can't travel for long hours. I hate travelling by bus. ~Pinks~ [itsmepinky]
I hate buses too, although I've never really had to spend a long time on one thankfully. I'm so excited about visiting my sister, I just called to let her know the dates, and it turns out she'll be on a break from Uni, so I'm going to spend a few days there with her, and then we're going to catch the train home together, and she'll spend a few days up here with me =D [Malyck]
i do always like to take a public transport while traveling or a personal or family car, it makes me see the beauty of the african continent, the wild animals as well as the green lands of west africa though sometimes it might not be convinient travelling in a public transport due to the crowd but i still prefer it to rail or air traveling [delaks44]
Oh, I bet it is absolutely gorgeous to travel through the African landscapes =) I can't wait to travel to Africa, along with the rest of the world, one day. I also like to try to go with my friends or family in one vehicle or use public transport if I'm going someone reasonably nearby but too far to walk. =) Thank you for your response, Delaks =D [Malyck]
hey malyck, yes it actually depends on where you are going. i like taking planes. it gets you there faster and when i travel to places i get excited and cant wait to be there. eventhough i dont show it i really am deep down so the plane is good to take. i also like driving a car. road tripping is good especially when your with family and friends. sometimes i get bored sitting on the passengers seat in the car so friends and family is a good thing when your taking a trip. and when your the one driving at least you wont get bored taking the trip because your the one driving. being in charge of the wheel keeps you alert and occupied. but the negative point with cars is that gas prices are so high these days, so i dont recommend it unless you share gas money. and i have taken boat rides to other places i havent taken a boat ride for more than 1 day or half of a day. its nice to take a boat ride to other places as well but its not exactly my ideal way to travel unless its a fast craft. and i have only tried riding on a train twice [coming & going back] when i was in thailand and i found it pleasant. the old trains not the new modern trains now i mean. i feel that its a good kind of transportation because its cheap and fast. [katbalu102]
I suppose it is some strand of narcolepsy, although it's kind of strange that it only affects her in motion. It's a good umbrella term for whatever it is, so I'll use that =) Yeah, time is also an important factor when you're not spending very long in a new place. When I go overseas I really like to just to "common" things, mingle with the population and just explore the city myself, rather than go on constant guided tours etc, although they can also be really great for certain places =) [Malyck]
I rarely even get to travel mostly because I never have any travel companions, but when I do, it is usually by car, and if I was going overseas, I would definitely arrange to go by boat because I have BIG TIME aviophobia. I have never been on a train before. I definitely like walking if it's just a short distance just because I love to move around and don't want to be trapped in a vehicle if I can avoid it; the exercise feels good. As for any overnight vacations, I hope I can do something this summer, but I am not sure what my options are at this moment, so I guess we'll see. [skydancer]
I seem to like to travel to a new place by myself first, and then take someone there and experience it again with them, and know a little of what I'm talking about. I quite like being alone, so I haven't found a lack of companions to stop my travelling. Normally it's just money and time that stop that =P Exercise does feel good, and my body is missing it because I've been so lazy lately blush Well I hope you can and do go on some sort of trip for your summer, and have a great time while you're at it =) [Malyck]
I like travel by air.It makes me feel like an angel in the sky.But i just took plane to travel for once .BeiJing.I join a travel agency accompany with my anut uncle sister and my grandmother.I really like BeiJing and enjoy myself. If i have chance,i prefer travel alone. No plan no accompany. [Eureka2008]
I agree with you about travelling alone, although it can also be really nice to have someone there to experience it with you - I can't wait to take my boyfriend away in a few months time and show him all the great places I've been =P I feel quite magical and angel-like when I'm in a plane also, especially if I get a window seat (preferably without a view of the plane's wing, which kind of ruins the moment =P) [Malyck]
i love to travel by plane, i love the feeling that ur up there seeing the clouds and seeing rainbows..it feels like u are really close to God..=) [sanz_eight]
Don't the clouds just look beautiful?! The view is my favourite part of flying, sure it's fast and usually cost-effective, but the view takes the cake =) [Malyck]
I don't mind travelling by train, car or plane, the last time i took the train was when i went to Paris by Eurostar in August 2007, i have to say the journey was really good and very efficient. My favourite way of travelling is by by plane though, i just love it. The last time i travelled by plane was in 2006 to Canada. I don't like travelling by bus or tube though as it can get pretty uncomfortable [hallee23]
You've been to Canada and France? That's so cool, they're two (of many) places that I want to visit in my little lifetime =) I love flying too, all forms of travel are unique, but flying is quite magnificent. Public transport can be quite stuffy and uncomfortable, I only use it for short distances. =) [Malyck]
Hello, As long as I'm going somewhere I'm happy! I guess I prefer to travel by car only because I feel that I'm not a schedule and if I want to stop somewhere and explore I can. I love to take back roads and see the real people and country. When I get to the destination, I love walking too. This year though, I am flying to Niagara Falls for a few days and we are going to the Canadian side, so we won't be driving since we live in So. Florida. Can't wait! Good luck in Sydney, it's on my to-do list! [di1159]
As long as I'm going somewhere I'm happy! I couldn't agree with you more; that's so true =) Stopping of your own free will is an advantage of driving that no-one else had thought of/brought up so far - you're so right, it is a pretty big plus. Seeing the real people and places is something that I'm really into when I travel, as well as the obvious sort of "tourist" destinations and sights to see. Niagara Falls will be amazing, I love waterfalls and bodies of water, even though I'm not "beachy" as far as swimming and tanning, I'm absolutely amazed by water. I hope you have a fantastic time! Thanks, I'm just bursting with excitement to go and see her. I was there only 1 month and a half ago, but it's such a refreshing change from being in my rural kind of home town, it's nice to go to the city and be anonymous and have a place to wear nice outfits =P Definitely come out to Australia if you have the chance, it's a hoot =P [Malyck]
Have fun traveling in June! I would prefer by car or by plane! By car, it means I could stop wherever I want if I see some good scenery. By plane, that means I could arrive at the destination the soonest and I could save time and start exploring different places. [wondericequeen]
Those are definitely the selling points of those two mediums of travel. Thanks, I will have fun in June, and I've just found out tonight that my sister will be driving up to surprise our mum for mother's day! She didn't move away long ago, but I'm excited to see her. Any travel plans coming up for you? [Malyck]
i Prefer train because some parts of train is for smokers and you can go in toilet, open window, watch movies and listening music on lap top...etc [Sonic_cro]
I am yet to take my first long trip on a train, but I can see all the advantages of those facilities for long rides, including the (over priced) food canteen areas as well. So far, the longest train ride I have been on is about 1 1/2 hours, so toilets and walking around haven't been a big concern, but in June I'll be on a 10 hour ride home, so then it will definitely be a plus. Thanks for your response, Sonic! =D [Malyck]
If I'm honest, i don't really like travelling at all. Unfortunately I have to travel fairly long distances quite regularly, and either fly or take the ferry and drive. It's the hassle factor of travel that I don't like, so I suppose driving would have to be my preferred method as at least you're in control. Ferries are dismal places to be long term. The route I took earlier this year was over 30 hours, and as I get seasick it was hell on earth for me. [GreenMoo]
I'm sure there's plenty of time for it, and we're known to have a tiff or two. He took me out again today, for my second lesson and is blown away by how well I'm doing =D No fights yet, just praise =D Which is so refreshing and makes me feel more confident, obviously. I thought that he would be the kind of person that I wouldn't even let in my car once I had my full license, assuming he'd pick on the way I drove, but I was wrong =) [Malyck]
Hello Malyck. Among all the traffic tools, I prefer taking a trip by plane. It is so fast and I don't have to spend so long a time on the journey. I love to watch the beautiful sky high above the ground with white and dark clouds flying from one direction to another. I love the feeling high above the ground as if I myself were flying. [williamjisir]
That's a really nice photo =) I'm yet to take one while in a plane, but I hope that next time I fly I can get some really nice shots - the clouds always look so magical. I love being able to see the shaded and shadowed parts of the land when we're descending in the plane =) [Malyck]
