I often wonder to see people who do not count local small distance tours as travels. However, I feel going anywhere out of the regular abode is a travel, where distance and duration do not matter. If the trip is pleasing and made for pleasure only (not for business), it is a travel.
Lot of people in India never go out of their locality or city in their life time -- forget about traveling around the world. Thus, they do not get an idea of the span of the country, varieties of people living here and so on. Under such situation, am I not right to have such an opinion?

I often speak to my friends and when I tell them I love to travel, they assume I mean to other countries. What I actually mean is I love to visit new places, whether that be in the same state or a different country. So, I agree with your way of thinking. Even if you stay in the same city (or perhaps are just visiting the next city over) it's still considered "travel," especially if you're doing a little sight-seeing. [thungster]
Yes, you know, in the poor countries in the world, many people are born and die within the same locality of their respective village or city. So, considering a small percentage of people who go for long trips, we cannot generalise that 'Travelling' should mean a very long distance trip. [prasanta]
Any place can be called "travel" depending on how you feel about it. I totally agree with you. And not only in India does this happens: it occurs in all the world. For a city person to go to the nearest countryside or beach is a travel. It has everyone of its variables: going away from home is the mont important. [atacamaval]
Surely, it should be a pleasing trip, at any destination a bit away from our regular residence. Going to any place away from my home is a travel to me. [prasanta]
I commute over 60 miles (100km) to work each way each day and about 75 miles (130km) just to go fishing so travel for me would have to be anything in excess of 100 miles one way. Other than that, it's just a commute. [Strongheart]
Dear friend, The dictionary meaning of 'commute' is -- "Travel back and forth regularly, as between one's place of work and home." Thus, the word 'travel' is coming into picture. I believe you will agree with me! [prasanta]
I am a primary school teacher and also a very keen traveler. I have been to more than fifty different countries in my life so far. I taught a class where some of the children were rich and had been on holidays to the Caribbean and some of the children were poor. I had to talk about holidays so included an afternoon trip to the local zoo as travel. Some of the children had been on day trips to the Welsh coast. All the children became very imaginative when they discussed a trip on London Underground, that is a train. When I traveled around the world I went to Singapore and then hopped over to some islands on my way to Sumatra. The people there were poor. I only saw motorcycles and no cars. Most of the people had not traveled four or so hours to Singapore. A school child goes on a journey to school but it is not the same as real travel. It is all relative to the individual and some people in the world sadly in life don't get to see much beyond their locality. A local tour of 100km for me I wouldn't consider as travel but for a South African traveling on a weekend trip from the city to the coast that would be travel. [maximax8]
Hi maximax8, The people in the Asian countries are on an average poorer than the people in the US or other European countries. Thus, what an opportunity you got hardly 10-15 percent of the people from Asian and African countries get that. So, I request you to accept this definition. What is true for most of the people in the world that should be the meaning of a word. Am I wrong? [prasanta]
In this city, we have several bus centered where people take buses to any of the over 10 nearby travel destinations. All of them are characteristic of south china towns, featuring in streams, bridges, black roof & white wall houses, where you can sail on boat around or across the town, or go shopping on narrow streets, and watch a folk play on stage in the central square. It is really fun to have a short distance trip on weekends with the family. Some of them are well known and have become travel destination for foreigners. [zhuhuifen46]
Good. I feel for common people places like that are really useful. Everybody cannot afford to far off for travel. [prasanta]
