Mirror Mirror On The Wall, In The Bathroom, Hotel Room And Mall

Do you know how to check if the mirror in the changing rooms and bathrooms of hotels and shopping malls are two way mirrors? In a two way mirror the person on the other side can also see you. To make sure that the mirror is not a two way mirror just place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface. If there is a gap between your fingernail and the image of the nail then it is a genuine mirror. If your fingernail directly touches the image of your nail then it is a two way mirror. Make sure you check this the next time you use a changing room in a shopping mall!

Hmm...interesting, why would they have that kind of mirror there in the hotel room and especially the bathroom? I've seen those kinds of mirrors in shopping malls for and I can see the purposes of the management wanting to monitor the activities to make sure that everything is safe and sound. I've been on business trips and stayed at the hotels but never thought of this at all. I will be careful and start checking the mirrors from now on because quite honest, I've always been making myself really comfortable when I am in the hotel room and would be very uncomfortable thinking that someone is watching me, that would be an intrusion of my privacy though. Thanks for the tips. Cheers, Cest_moi [cest_moi]
There have been stories going around that hotels have been using the two way mirrors and enjoying intruding on everyone's privacy and monitoring the activities of those in the room. Similarly shopping malls and cloth shops have been caught with these kind of mirrors. That is why we have to be careful!!! [mayka123]

I can two meanings of mayday Mayday is used as distress signal. It is derived from french venez m'aider which means 'come help me'. You often come across it in hollywood movies. Though, of late is has been replaced by SOS which means save our souls. Mayday also refers to public a holiday in many countries. A holiday to commemorate the international labours day. [loudcry]
Now what does this mean????? [mayka123]

Sorry had opened more than one window and answered to the wrong discussion. I know it is funny. I apologise. [loudcry]
Yes it was funny....now waiting a response for my discussion, dear!!! [mayka123]

I received the an email before regarding this matters. After that, I always check mirrors that I am using other than in my house. It's better be safe and check instead of fully believing. Things are unpredictable now days. I don't want to end up in Youtube (or any place those pervert can think of) [prinzcy]

I have heard this and have checked, lol. Also, if you check at night, just turn off the lights. You can see a little what is on the other side, if there is even a hint of light. [nanajanet]

Yes, you are right, it is better to check the type of the mirror, before venturing into changing rooms of showrooms and big malls. In today's world you never know what is up. Instances have been reported in the media where some of the showrooms had some types of two mirrors in their changing rooms and it became quite embarrassing for the person who changed her/his clothes in the changing room, to know later that he/she was being viewed through a mirror. [dpk262006]

i didnot know of this two-way mirrors in the malls, hotels etc.i thought they can see us only through hidden cameras.thanks for such a useful information. happy posting. [riyasam]

Oh wow! I havent really thought about it but I really do look around the changing room in case there are some peep holes of some kind or something. I do that even in the toilet cubicle. I guess Im just a bit paranoid.LOL! Anyway Im also not that comfortable with mirrors. I try to avoid looking in mirrors as much as possible. But this information you gave me is quite useful. I used to think Id know two way mirrors once I see one but I think there are those genuine looking ones too. Thanks for this tip!happy [bjcyrix]

Isn't that against the Law? That is good information, are you from another Country? maybe they have that in your Country, but not in the U.S.A. [marciascott]

indeed, in the society today we're perverts are all around us, it is wise to check the mirrors in public places especially in the changing room where we put off our clothes to try on a new one. Aside from checking mirrors, we must only shop on a trusted places or malls since they have high level of security. In addition, aside from mirrors, we must also be careful in using public toilets because we never know what's in store for us. We can never be too careful in protecting ourselves. [anneshirley]

Now that is a scary thought. I'll make sure i check, thou I bet when they see me they take a coffee break so I wouldn't want to interfere with that. [savypat]
Cute.... and a bit of how I look at it too. Yuck.... do people not have anything better to do? [TLChimes]

That's very interesting, and very illegal aswell. I think it's a very bad thing that these mirrors are caught in use in places where people need privacy as in changing rooms and hotel rooms. Yes, I do realize that certain monitoring in a shop is neccessairy to prevent shoplifting, etc. but I don't think these mirrors are the way to go. I had no clue on how to spot a two way mirror, so I am glad you brought this up. I will surely check next time! [cyberfluf]

I carry a small flashlight on my keychain. I always check mirrors in dressing rooms and public restrooms (while never having thought to check hotel mirrors, I will now..thanks) you hold a flashlight against the mirror, if it a two-way mirror you will be able to make out bits of the room on the other side. [ckpriess]

Wow that's crazy i'm gonna hafta check this out sometime. Thanks for the heads up i'll go home and check on my own mirror...LOL [dookie03]

I've never heard of that before. thanks for the tip, I'll have to try it next time. [madasp]
i have to say i have never heard of this either . and i tell you what i onley get a few min a day by my self. if i find some one is taking away from my private time we will have war.i look forward to night when i can take my shoes and pants off and just rest watching tv.these people are nuts.but for the most part all they are going to get to watch is my little triplet boys fighting with one another. so they will probabley lose intrest right away. [deedeehall]

Wow, I never know that before. I will check it one I go to the mall or somewhere else that has mirror. Thank you for all the tips and it is really new to me. [smileonstar]

Good tip. I saw this on a television program a few years ago and ever since then I have been a little paranoid. I am always checking mirrors, just in case. You never know, there are plenty of weirdo's out there. [breezie]

Wow, thanks for sharing this. Gotta watch out for those pervs. [wahmivy]

Wow - that's really handy to know, Mayka - especially in these strange times where there are a lot of warped people trying to exploit us. I never use change rooms because the mirrors make me look big - bwahahahaaa! [guybrush]

Probably yes, some of them are two way, for security purpuses, in companies where they required to check the status of the customers. In some weird cases this are for sick reasons, you know spy on customers and tape things,....there for be careful whatever you go and get involved with the place, always look for a good policy on customer service and ask for the information at the front desk. Just to fill you some in this info. See ya [vickystubbs]

i think that this title is a bit weird but cauth my eye i like the why you advertise.... [stephersss]

I already knew this and ever since I found out about that, I always put my index finger to the fitting room mirror whenever before I try some clothes. And so far, I haven't encounter any two-way mirror yet and hopefully I never will. [semispoiledgurl]

Thanks for warning us about this. I was not aware of this fact before. Will be more careful now when I use the mirrors in changing rooms and hotels. [Kavitina]
One has to be careful about this especially when travelling because in some places where they know that the only visitors there are those who come from far and may not be visiting the place again they tend to put this kind of stuff. [mayka123]

I'm glad you brought this up! I was looking for this one long ago because i forgot how to detect. So i guess it's the gap. Well i really need this piece of advice especially when me and my former girlfriend visit motels. I mean we should really be careful at least or we might find ourselves being recorded while doing something. You know what i mean. Still i value our privacy so a two mirror is really enough cause for alarm. I hope i won't forget it this time. [modstar]
Everyone values their privacy and we would not like any intruders when we are alone...... [mayka123]

OH! I don't know anything about it and have not heard it before. Thanks for sharing this with us and I am going to make sure I that will check all the mirror everywhere I go. [lynnchua]
Look at the mirror in your own home and see how your fingernail looks. Only then you would know the difference if you see any changes when you check any other mirror. [mayka123]

Nice topic, friend, I really do not know about this, thanks for your advice and is a good information and knowledge for me to know how to detect it. I will check it next time. Happy mylotting. [my125125]
This is something we all need to know and keep an eye when we are out. We do tend to be a bit careless when we are in hotels and in changing rooms and someone somewhere could take advantage of that. [mayka123]

Hi mayka...thanks for the tip.....actually this is a very useful tip since its always better to be cautious.I must confess I have received this tip before but always forget to practice this when I am in a hotel room or mall........happy.I hope this discussion will serve as a reminder to me to check mirrors before using them.........happy [Roseo8]
I am fine. Hope your work is going on well. [Sreekala]

Hi dear, I have heard about the same. My hubby told me about it, after watching a programme in TV and he was doing experiment with our dressing table mirror (lol). Unfortunately I could not watch the program. The programme explained some unpleasant incidents happened with somebody. I don't know the details. It means, we should be careful while going outside places and make sure about the mirror first. What a pity? sad [Sreekala]
Hi sree....Actually my job will start only in june after the schools reopen....happy [Roseo8]

It is very nice information. But I can't understand how should i see whether there is gap or not. at home, on mirrors if i touch the finger, it will seem they are joined.i will try also [subha12]

hmm i didnt know about that trick.. i will have to try it lol [moonlitmagikchild]
