Stupid Comment By Tom Cruise About People Suffering From Depression

How many of you out there in mylot land agree with what Mr Cruise said about people suffering from depression not needing antidepressants? Here's another one I heard, but not from Mr Cruise. "People that suffer from depression are posessed by the Devil." Love to hear your opinions on these comments!

Tom Cruise & whoever said that last comment are complete idiots. I have suffered from depression on & off my whole life & trust me I am NOT posessed by the devil although I have been called a bit&^%$##ch from time to time LOL. Depression for most of us is just a part of life that unfortunately we have to deal with. Maybe if I had the money that Tom Cruise has I wouldn't be so depressed. Ya think?? angry [photographygirl73]
Money isn't a cure-all either. Haven't you noticed how many celebrities have trouble in their marriages, their kids start drinking and doing drugs, there is a lot of strain on their families from being apart and then things like cheating and affairs happen, as well as intrusion from the media and subsequent damage. I guess just because you have money doesn't mean you automatically know how to be wise with it, and it definitely does not buy decorum or class. [mommyboo]

I believe that Tom Cruise's opinions on most things are those his church gives to him so I don't pay too much to what he thinks. I just hope and pray that his wife never suffers from severe post partum depression. As far as being possessed by the devil goes, my husband suffers from post traumatic stress disorder with depression caused by the hell he witnessed during the Viet Nam war so, no, I wouldn't agree that he's possessed by the Devil. [spalladino]
I don't really pay much attention to what Tom Cruise says and does, but I must admit that his comment had me somewhat intrigued. I also agree that his Scientology beliefs are where his opinions come from but I do wish he'd keep his mouth shut about things he knows nothing about. I feel for your husband about what he saw during that horrible war and for the toll it may have taken on you both. I don't think the Devil has anything to do with this - It was a comment made to me by a religious fundamentalist who goes by the title of my Father! Blessings to you both. Thanks for a great response. [feralwoman]

Well damn, I wish someone would have told me earlier I was just possessed by the devil. I'd have gone and got an exorcism instead of taking these pills. Thanks Tom! [pixelpixie]

I think that both comments are just plain stupid! However, I do think that doctors and drug companies can't wait to get folks hooked on their antidepressants. And why shouldn't they? It stimulates wealth for them! I think it is very important for the patient and their family to be paying very close attention to someone who is a good candidate for using such drugs. I do think that they are over prescribed but I do also think that they are needed by some. [grasshopper5257]
I agree about prescription meds with children, and it makes me very angry that they have targeted such a vulnerable group. Not only the children but the parents too. Most Parents want is best for their children and if a doctor or school authority says that their child should be on meds of course most parents will try it because they want what is best for their child. I have taken care of "therapeutic" foster kids in the past and you can't believe the amount of drugs that these kids are on. And my experience was, that the kids would go in to the shrink and make up some stupid story about their health, and it was usually something that they had read in a book or watched on tv and the shrink would prescribe more meds for them! Instead of talking to their caretakers, they would just get out their pens! It was very frustrating! [grasshopper5257]

From what I have seen lately Tom could use a tranquilizer or two. His love of his chosen religion is a perfectly lovely thing. His zealot behavior is straight up creepy. Tom.. Step away from the Kool-aid. [Lambchoper]
LOL let me at him with a tranquilizer gun! The man himself is just creepy. Thanks for your comments! [feralwoman]

I think Tom Cruise is crazy, I think he has been brainwashed for a start and with his silly behaviour he will end up ruining his career, he is starting to even crazy... [lilaclady]

Wow i have to agree that was a very stupid statement.Thats stupid, people who are depressed are not posessed by the devil, how silly...Depression can be caused by many things, like lifes situations, clincial depression, all kinds of different..Maybe one day MR Cruise will have to eat those words..some day we all suffer from some form of depression, except of course Tom Cruise...Lol...Now if he would have said child molesters,or mass murders i might agree, but depression?I don't think so... [slickcut]

I vaguely remember Tom Cruise also going through a bout of depression. Being that I have never been through it first-hand, or know anyone that had been through it in real life, I do know one online friend who had bad experiences. I know this friend who owned a get-paid-to site was getting depressed, & was put on anti-depressants. Keep in mind that no one knew about this, except for him & his immediate family. I had known him as a nice guy who always cared, & never got mad at someone who negatively criticized. He used to take the time to actually get to what that criticizer was going off about, & somehow, made it a positive experience for himself & the other person. It was strange in that this guy suddenly changed. On his site, it seemed that he was barking back at members, & was constantly getting uncharacteristically frustrated, & getting rid of different things on his site that people ended up complaining about. After a while, the site was no longer a paid-to site. While it wasn't all that great for me in that aspect, it did end up giving me a nice boost in my downline at the site I used to be an admin at. Eventually, the entire site was gone. Jumping a couple of years later, the site came back with a new look & feel. Same owner though. We all seemed happy, & he had some story to tell. His wife took the kids & left & divorced him. He was optimistic that they were going to return, & he & she were going to get engaged, & hopefully, re-married. Then he explained what had happened. He was getting depressed, & didn't know why. He was prescribed anti-depressants, & trusting the doctor, took them as prescribed. The thing he did not know were the side effects & things like that. Even though he didn't give the name of the anti-depressant, he did explain that what they did was make him not feel depressed by making him not feel anything. That took away his sensitivity to his membership, friends, family ... He stopped taking them, & he seemed that he was no longer feeling depressed. I think he would probably agree with Tom Cruise. From what I heard, depression is usually the result of some kind of chemical imbalance in the human system. Not sure what to make about that "possessed by the devil" line. [KrazyKlingon]

I must admit I had not heard this comment from Mr. Cruise, but then again, I rarely listen to what any of the stars have to say about anything, especially those involved in weird religions like Scientology. Having said that, I find his comments to be up to par with his religion. I had a client (who was a teenager) whose mentor belonged to a very large church that many people in the community felt was a little too cultish for their tastes. Anyway, this mentor told my client that he didn't need his antidepressant medication but needed to pray more. My client stopped his medication (without my knowledge or his physician's knowledge) and the client ended up in the hospital from a suicide attempt. I was so angry, I went up one side of the mentor and down the other side then chewed up the middle. He lost his spot as a mentor, but the damage had been done. Now, my ex-boyfriend, on the otherhand, simply stated to me that if I just made up my mind to get over my own depression, I wouldn't need medication and therapy. Well, if I had known that, I wouldv'e done that a long time ago. As far as the possession by the Devil is concerned, I'm sure an exorcism would have been much cheaper than all the therapy and medications over the last 20 years or so. Sometimes, ignorance knows no bounds. [artistmel2000]

well i did not read that comment, this is the first time that i am hearing that. i know that most people that have such an extreme comment on a subject, usually fear that problem. maybe he suffers from depression and he feels weak, i do not know. but yes it is an idiotic comment. about the devil..i really do not know what went up in his head. but about people that suffer from depression not needing antidepressants. well, it all depend what level of depression you have. there are alote of people that support this saying and use sports as an natural antidepressants. [liranlgo]
Kind of like homophobia, people who are homophobic are actually afraid of being homosexuals as well. It's hard to diagnose someone who is in the limelight so much of the time, but I find Mr. Cruise hardly credible as he does not have a medical degree. As for some people not needing medication, I wholeheartedly support alternative methods of dealing with depressive symptoms before trying medications, especially with children and teenagers. Sometimes, behavior management, i.e., using sports or art or other ways to work through depressive symptoms can be just as useful as medications. Good post! [artistmel2000]

Tom cruise has proven over and over again that he is an arrogant butthead. He thinks he is god. When it all comes down to it, tom is just a arrogant selfcentered piece of trash-sorry if that was a little descriptive but that is the way I feel about him. No person can judge another by saying that antidepressants are the wrong answer for depression. Who do he think he is? Oprah ha. [kebon77]

tom cruise is only a movie actor, not a doctor or psychologist, so why care what the heck the guy says. and the devil bit, thats another idiot talking nonsense. You want help for depression you turn to your doctor for help not to some lame brain actor or other idiot. Why do americansobess over movie star crap when they know these people are not bona fide doctors? they are just human beings like the rest of us with their own biases and ignorances. Look to the medical field if you need medical help. [Hatley]

Mr.Cruise Who Cares about what He Says, It is not Important as He is just an over Paid Actor into Scientology & not of Gods Relgions. I am sure He has a Bad Day just like All of Us. But You will never Read or Hear about it. He is getting Weirder as Time Goes On & more M.I. Sequels get Made. thumbdown [mrgpk66]

What a Idiot! This disorder is something you have no control over . You can not pop out of depression. As for the devil sometimes I feel that way but now I know its my hormones. People should not talk about a subject they know nothing about. So ignorant! [honeydew82174]

Complete idiots! Some people do need antidepressants, because they are chemically imbalanced and that can be what causes some of the depression. I also believe that some people are more prone to it than others, if you have poor coping skills it's even easier to succumb to depression because you feel you will never get your head above water so what's the use in trying. Obviously not everything can be helped with medication, and in some cases it causes more harm than good. For many people it can be a combination, but it can also include things like a move (geographical distance from a bad situation), new friends (people who don't know your past), education, a new or different career, beginning or ending a relationship etc. Possessed by the devil?! People who SAY things like this must be possessed by the devil, only somebody that crazy would pop out with a crazy comment like that. People need filters and tact, I swear! [mommyboo]
