The Great Thing About Hotel Beds

is that you don't have top make them in the morning. Or do you? Do you feel that after a night in your hotel bed you should make the bed before going out? Or do you leave it to the maid? Personally I leave it.

I used to work as a maid in a hotel resort Pikey. The beds get changed everyday, so for guests to make the beds, They are only wasting their own time. I never make a bed when staying in a motel. Not that I get to stay in motels. [Goodie123]
Do not give in to temptation my friend. Look what happened to Adam.rasplol [Goodie123]

well my grandmother used to work as a maid in a hotel... honestly if its your last night in a hotel then dont make the bed ... when you check out of the hotel they have to change the sheets anyway so making the bed actually makes it harder for them though if it isnt the last night your staying there then making the bed is a nice thing... also one thing alot of people dont know.... most hotels pay the maids the same way restaurants pay waitresses.... they dont have to pay minimum wage because the maid is supposed to make up the difference from getting tips from the people who stay their ... though these days alot of people dont bother leaving tips like they should.... usually a $10 tip is very appreciated by the maids since most people dont leave any tip. personally i usually do a $2 tip for each night that if i am staying another night and then i do an aditional $10-20 on check out day depending on how good of a hotel it is... [gypsy_owl]
I don't make the bed and, depending on the room's condition, I don't usually tip the maid either. But if I do I leave the equivalent of $10. [p1kef1sh]

I wouldn't go so far as to make the bed, but I would pick the wet towels off the bathroom floor. If I made the bed, I doubt my hospital corners would be up to scrutiny so I expect the chamberperson would redo it anyway. Seems a bit pointless to go to all that effort, with that in mind. [GreenMoo]
I don't make the bed either. I do put the towels back on the rail, but that's, mostly because I am happy to use them again and save the washing. [p1kef1sh]

I will leave the bed like that and the housekeeping staff will do that every day. Then why should I spend my time to make bed in hotels? [padmameera]
I think that's what you are paying for. Thank you. [p1kef1sh]

hehehe.. i feel you because i usually do the same whenever i sleep in a hotel room. i always keep them as how i left them when i get off it. but believe me, my mother is not like that. when she leaves, the room is like never touch. hehehe.. she would arrange everything, from the towel to the comforter. she's really a mother. lol [thaMARKER]
LOL. I suspect that there are many people that like to leave the bedroom as if no one had ever been there. [p1kef1sh]

well if its too hard to do...but usually I do it on my own ..Im used to it ever since i was a child.....I remembered being on a five star hotel here at our place its a great place to be.... the feeling is amazing...youll feel like a millionare... we swim ...eat delicious foods. have a jacuzzi... cool place..happy [chichong]
That sounds very luxurious. [p1kef1sh]

well the last time i stayed in a motel was for several days,so i made the beds.i just dreaded the thought of some one coming in and seeing the room in a mess,so i would tidy up as well, silly me.the kids would say hurry up mum when we went out,as i was busy making the room clean.cheers sue [suehan1]
LOL. I bet that if you had a cleaner you'd clean the house before they arrived?! [p1kef1sh]

No idea dont use hotels, have no reason to . rasp [LoudnProud]
Heh aint you away yet..haha me either,Monday if all goes well. Going out the night, leaving the 12 at home, aint ready. hey at least am honest eh !! lol [LoudnProud]

Oh, this is such a good discussion. On th rare occasions that we use a hotel my better half always insists on making the bed. 'We don't want them to think we're untidy, do we?' she says. If we could afford the services of a cleaner she'd want to make sure the house was tidy before letting the cleaner anywhere near it! See what I mean? [MichaelJay]
I know exactly what you mean. My mother is like that. She has a cleaner but will dust and vacuum before she arrives! [p1kef1sh]

Hi P1kef1sh, Oh I am one of these people that leave the room sp*ck and span before I leave, I suppose by making the bed back up I am also checking that I haven't left anything behind either, unlike you with your trousers, I can't believe they were still there six months later. I know all they are going to do is strip it but thats just how I am I suppose. Ellie:D LOL They won't let me use the word sp*ck for some reason, how is that rude? Am I missing something? You know how niave I can be at times. Ellie :D [ellie333]
Sp*ck is a slang term for a Hispanic I think. I tend not to be messy in my room. But I don't make the bed - that's probably why I do lose things! [p1kef1sh]

LOL I make the bed when I'm staying at a hotel..AND when I'm checking out I strip the beds and collect the towels too and just leave them in a pile off to the side...I use to be a chambermaid and I always appreciated when the 'stayer' did that (which of course was rare LOL).. [Ravenladyj]
I don't make the bed and have never stripped the bed either. I'm always too worried what stain I might find on the mattress! LOL. Actually, I don't think that I've ever thought of doing that. I have learned something new. [p1kef1sh]

its what hotels are for i guess its part of their services rendered to guests...in hotels we stay like a king no worries for the cleaning and all..but of course have to pay afterward... [vanities]
Sometimes we pay very handsomely too! [p1kef1sh]

I do just like I do at home, I leave it.. Most days I do not make the bed, hubby does although, it is a fetish of his... I figure that if the bed is clean and no one sees it, then it is fine, even unmade.. I leave it so the maid can change the sheets and I get a fresh bed.. Beside the only time that I am in a hotel room is when I am on vacation and I don't do anything that even resembles work while on vacation.. [DonnaLawson]
Good for you Donna. I usually make the bed at home, but never at an hotel. I agree with the vacation perspective too. [p1kef1sh]

Well i never|!!thats typical!!lol..I make it,plus tidy up,and make sure the room is fine!!lol I probably do more than if it were my bedroomn at home!..so if you dont make the bed..do you leave a tip for the poor chambermaid who has to come in behind you??..you know Piky I had you down as a maker of hotel beds, who whipped his tape measure out of his pocket to check if the duvet overlapping the bed measured the same both sides!!!..How wrong you can be!! [ruby222]
I am afraid that I am not a bedmaker (although I do at home usually) in hotels. I don't make a mess either though. [p1kef1sh]

I don't actually make it properly, but I do pull up the cover neatly. I know it's silly, but I just like to leave the place looking tidy. I also fold the wet towels and leave them neatly on the vanity unit in the bathroom - and check the toilet to make sure my husband hasn't left an indiscretion! [guybrush]
Hahahaaha - you must be one of those 'exception to the rule' husbands! [guybrush]

I am rather more inclined to make a bed elsewhere than at home. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I don't have to. It's not expected of me so I don't mind. I don't like to leave a mess anywhere that's not mine really. [pumpkinjam]
I wouldn't know if they make the bed afterwards as I have never stayed in a hotel or anything for more than one night at a time. I would think they would strip and change the bed anyway so I probably make it more difficult for them by making it. I'll have to remember that for next time. ~Note to self~Do not make hotel bed~ [pumpkinjam]

I leave it. There is no reason to make it up because they are going to change the sheets anyways, at least I hope so ,lol. What an experience that would be if they didnt yuk. I never sleep good in hotels. They are always so noisy. Diane [dianel]
I agree Diane. I regularly stay in one hotel which is opposite a church. All evening all you can hear is traffic. Then all night the blooming clock keeps me awake with its chiming the quarter, half and hour! They always put me in these rooms because I am a good customer (apparently) and the rooms are the best! I've often wondered if their is a grotty quiet room round the back somewhere! [p1kef1sh]

You better beleive I leave without making my bed. I mean I payed alot of money for a hotel room im not doing any chores lol. Plus to be honest I dont make my bed at home even. [minnie_98214]
I make my bed at home usually but never in hotels for the same reason Minnie. [p1kef1sh]

I just make sure all our personal things are in order, tidy and put away and leave the rest for housekeeping. [maddysmommy]

I will always leave the beds undone. I am in a hotel because I hate camping. I am paying lots for someone else to do the work. So, I ain't doing anything I don't have to there. [BCMike]
There we go. Sacrifice ourselves for the needs of others. [BCMike]

I leave it, because that is one of the joys of not being at home. You don't have to make the bed and empty the trash, the maid will come while you're out and about and do it. I wonder if they go home and don't make their bed lol. [MoonlightSerenade]
Now there's a thought. They probably have a huge mess at home. LOL. I don't make the bed either. [p1kef1sh]

Well, Pike, you dont HAVE to make your bed at home either. You can either leave it for the wife or skip it all together. My fella chooses both, because he doesn't like to sleep in an orderly bed, but I do. I am not even allowed to tuck in the sheet on his side. Well, I'm allowed to do it, but I don't bother. At a hotel, I let them do it. They do a better job at it than I do, and I think to hear fella whine about his sheets being tucked in.rasp [Katesmama]
I go away for a couple of days and when I come back there you are in your avatar! I must go away more often. LOL. I tend to make the bed at home - after all I'm at home all day. But never at an hotel. [p1kef1sh]

Oh my goodness, p1key, I would leave everything! After all, isn't that part of the whole thing, staying in a hotel? The way I look at it, it is. But then, I don't even make my own bed, so maybe I'm just a slob...... A sweet slob, but still a slob. blush [novataylor]
Sweet yes, slob, no way Nova. LOL. [p1kef1sh]

There is nothing better than a fresh clean made bed. I always have to make my bed each ancd everyday , and it is not the same . When you are at a hotel it is made so nice and everything is nice and tucked . Also , at the last placed I stayed at they had a huge king bed and it felt like sleeping on clouds . Boy oh boy was I in heavenhappy [metschica25]
Sounds heavenly to me. [p1kef1sh]

I rarely stay in hotels but I can't stand seeing an unmade bed so I have to make it. I hope they still change the sheets before the next guest though. [nannacroc]
I am sure that they do Nanna. I hope that they do anyway!! [p1kef1sh]

Hi there p1kef1sh, I will arrange them but not the perfect arrangement, just make it sure that it's in order, the towels and some of the stuff inside...What I love about it, is the change of the venue and surroundings! LOL! [checapricorn]
Some hotels are lovely. But I've stayed in a few that are marginally better than sleeping rough! But I agree with you mostly. [p1kef1sh]

I leave it! I'm not paying $50+ a night to make my own bed in the morning! Heck, I don't even make my own bed in my own house most of the time! Straightening my own home-sheets is good enough for me, but I'm not paying to sleep somewhere else and still make the bed! They hire the maids for a reason... [FaerieAne2003]
I agree. I don't leave a mess. But I don't make the bed either. [p1kef1sh]

Hotels are for vacation. You do as little work as possible. [Rozie37]

hi pikefish I also love the fact that when you stay in a hotel you do not have to make the darned beds. lol I leave it to the maid as she gets paid to make the bed. such fun, and I 'am free to do nothing if I wish. lol so I never make hotel beds. I enjoy my freedom too much. [Hatley]
Me too Hatley. I never make the bed. [p1kef1sh]

Oh did this bring back memories. First, no we don't make the bed unless we would sit on it later. LOL, my husband and I used to take our anniversary and go get a room for the night somewhere. Wonderful day and a great evening just us and no kids. So I brought a few twists one year. I went to an adult store and bought all kinds of erotic creams and lick me gels, foaming eatable mousse and so on. It was a great surprise to my husband, heehee, rightly so and we didn't make the bed when we left - were charged for the sheets on our credit card a day later, but no, we didn't make the bed. [ljegbers]
Wow. I am amazed that you got charged for the sheets. All that stuff would wash off in the laundry. I didn't even get charged for the mess that a nocturnal nose bleed caused. But I never make the bed either. [p1kef1sh]

Hi There, I absolutely do not make the bed. I see that as something I pay for in the often very high price of getting a room. I pay for getting a nice bed that is made when I get there and not have to worry about making it in the morning. I know they include that ito their prices. It is all factored in. cheers, [golfproo]
I'm the same as you. I don't make the bed. [p1kef1sh]

I also leave it. I figure for the price I've paid for the room, I am NOT going to make the bed. That is part of the "great thing" about being there.......to steal the words from you!! [idowrite72]
I am happy to have those words stolen. LOL. I'm with you on this. [p1kef1sh]

I leave it for the maid that is the one time that i get to leave my bed unmade... So why not take up the chance to not make your bed [pixiedustforyou2008]
I agree with you. I don't make the bed either for the same reason. [p1kef1sh]

I'm rather anal about clean sheets. So I strip it down to the mattress pad and put the sheets in a pillow case. That way I can be sure they change the bed for the next occupant. I just hope the person who rented the room before I did the same thing for me! LOL [sparkofinsanity]
I remember staying in an hotel in Amsterdam once where the receptionist was surprised that I wanted the room for the night and not an hour! The sheet had a split a foot in length. I've often wondered if the previous occupant had been a tad vigorous in his/her endeavours!! [p1kef1sh]

your suppose to leave them because no matter what the maid has to strip the sheets and remake them anyways [moonlitmagikchild]
That's what I think too. [p1kef1sh]

Well P1ke I have to say I am one of those that makes it as it is just habit with me lol even though I know the Maid will still make it again just me I guess well I am blonde you know confused [gabs8513]
Lol thanks P1ke [gabs8513]

Whoooo well I just love hotel beds and all the fun that goes with them.the sheets mean nothin to me,its wot happens in them does tho,but as for the bed making bit, then no way am I going to make a bed for a hotel, there are maids to do that, and they are being paid for doing it.My hotel night is just for fun and frolics. [Abby123]
My hotel night are mostly for work. The bed gets used for sleep then! But I do agree. Let the maid do it. [p1kef1sh]

Why would I make a hotel bed when I seldom make mine at home. LOL Of course, I leave it. After all, Iam a Princess... [skinnychick]
Could we make it tea please. Oh and if there is a biscuit going too? [p1kef1sh]

oh please i so leave it as it is. a bed that i don't have to make, you bet i am going to leave it for someone else to fix. how often can i get away with doing that? so thank you maids in all of the hotels i have stayed in for making my bed. [34momma]
i say if you have to pay $100 a night to stay someplace, they should make the bed, give you a bath, and make you breakfast in bed [34momma]

LOL..I hardly make my bed at home, p1ke. So, no, I don't make it in a hotel. I figure for 100+ a night, I should get something out of it, right? I used to manage hotels for years, so I know the housekeeping staff works hard as heck, but I also know the prices are jacked up beyond what is near necessary. [dfn12968]
I could give you a few stories about interviewing too. Like the lady that wanted to talk about her husband's circumcision as an example of problem solving!! Actually she was pretty good and we gave her the job! [p1kef1sh]

What would be the point in making it - I mean it would just make them have to unmake it before they changed the bedding, at least I would hope they would be changing the bedding! xxx [mummymo]
from your response ,i find that your thought too much. [fwangaa]

It all depends on if I have time and I am not being rushed. If I have time I will straighten the covers the best that I can even though I know it is not really necessary for me to do so. if I am staying a few days or another night then I won't straighten it up. One thing I hate about hotels though is sleeping on sheets that may have been slept on by someone else and not washed. I wonder how ofton they are washed? [mtdewgurl74]
That is a blessing to hear. We once had o stay in a hotel it was like after 11 at night and it had roaches that were huge. I couldn't sleep a wink because I as afraid they would crawl on me after I went to sleep I was so tire thankfully I wasn't driving the next morning. [mtdewgurl74]

i usually go to hotel in summer,so there is only one blanket . so when i go out ,i don't make it in the morning. [fwangaa]
I wouldn't either. Thank you. [p1kef1sh]

I do actually make beds wherever I am and I do a quick tidy up too. I know that there are cleaners who are paid to clean, Mr.Panda does tend to tell me off for it, but I don't want them thinking we're dirty people. [dorypanda]
I am sure that you're not dirty people Dory. Anytime you want to pop down and do some tidying up just let me know!! [p1kef1sh]

hi there i rekon if you stay in a place where you are paying ie hotel / motel etc... then it should be left for them to do. so i too personally do leave it for them too do. latas lamb101 xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo [lamb101]
Me too Lamb. Anyway, what would they do if we all made our beds?! [p1kef1sh]

I like to straighten out the duvet so it looks neat as i always use the bed to pack my bag. Also if we are waiting for everyone else to get ready, we will lie/sit on the bed waiting for them watching TV or something. Having worked at Butlins and working on accommodation over the adult weekends, the state of some of the rooms was disgusting so I would rather leave things as I find it!! I have that habit anyway and everywhere, if I find something open then I'll leaave it open or closed if it was closed. [cinderella2007]
I can imagine how horrible some of the rooms were. I don't mess the room up, but I don't make the bed either. [p1kef1sh]

What would be the use in making it as the bed has to be stripped and remade after you leave, I guess some don't want the maid to see how they left the room so they pick up after them selves even to make the bed. I do pick up paper, bottles and whatever I have used in the room, but I don't make the bed it is what the maid does, it is how she makes a living. I don't thinkit is expected as the beds are to be stripped anyway. [bdugas]
I agree. I don't make the bed either. [p1kef1sh]

I always feel sorry for the staff. I figure I will leave it how I would like to find it. I make the bed and tidy things and the maid does the rest. [MsTickle]
I'd like to say that I'm the same. But I don't make the bed, although I do leave the room neat and tidy, especially the bathroom. [p1kef1sh]

I don't actually make the bed but i try to straighten the covers a little. I just cant leave it and i don't know why and i don't actually make it all the way because the sheets are going to be striped off after i leave. Or at least i hope they will be so the next person has fresh sheets. [pheonixstar1982]
I hope so too. I don't make the bed, but I don't leave a mess either. Thank you. [p1kef1sh]

I have a fetish about hotel linen, so I usually bring my own, and cover theirs. I do not make the bed, but take my sheets off each morning and fold them. [sudalunts]
Do you travel a lot? Must be a pain lugging all that linin about. But I definitely understand your reluctance to sleep in hotel sheets. Some leave a lot to be desired. [p1kef1sh]

Of course I leave it! Why the heck wouldn't I? I look at it this way, if I am paying for something and that cost includes somebody doing housecleaning or pickup, then I allow them to do that and I take advantage lol. [mommyboo]
They charge enough so why not? I don't make a mess, but neither do I do the housekeeping for them. I agree with you entirely. [p1kef1sh]

Dear friend, Mostly I do leave to the maids and moreover we are paying for that. More over I would ask the maids or the room boy to clean up the bed or change it if there any discomfort for me. Usually I leave to room boy or maid.happy [SHAMRACK]
I am much the same Shamrack. [p1kef1sh]
