What a wonderful surprise I had when I went out on my balcony and saw this marvelous cruise ship the Queen Mary 2 leaving the Port of Lisbon and on it's way out to an unknown destination. Wish that I were on that vessel and heading to (as the song goes)
Far away places with strange-soundin' names
Far away over the sea
Those far away places with the strange-soundin' names
Are callin', callin' me
Goin' to China or maybe Siam
I want to see for myself
Those far away places I've been readin' about
In a book that I took from the shelf
I start gettin' restless whenever I hear
The whistle of a train
I pray for the day I can get underway
And look for those castles in Spain
They call me a dreamer, well maybe I am
But I know that I'm burnin' to see
Those far away places with the strange-soundin' names
Callin', callin' me
(I pray for the day when I'll find a way
Those far away places to see)
Those far away places with the strange-soundin' names
Callin', callin' me
Words and Music by Alex Kramer and Joan Whitney, 1948
While many singers sang this song the most popular and successful version was that of Bing Crosby.
So what do you say....shall we pack our bags and get underway. I am ready willing and able (physically not financially).

I think that if you have a dream to sail on this ship then you should save up and go for it to make that dream come true, or you could just get 1 ticket and put your partner into the suit case so that it is cheaper, lol nah this would not work so do not try but if you do try and get court then do not say that i told you to do it and get me into trouble, lol ahh well it is up to you. Fortunately I do not have a partner to contend with so there is no need for him to become a stowaway. For that reason there is no need for me to snitch on you so you can rest easy. Actually, I am hoping to take a cruise to the Greek Islands sometime in the future on the Funchal....a much, much smaller vessel than the QM2 but I know the Portuguese captain, he lives in the apt builing in front of mine. He keeps asking when me and my roommate are gonna go "sailing" with him but it's still far and away on the horizon. Thanks for dropping by. + [gifana]
Wow what a view you must have from your balcony. Personally , I am afraid of water. LOL I would never take a cruise anywhere as I am sure I would panic and die on the spot. LOL I am terrified of water. Our home was flooded once and I was too scared to get out. LOL [villageanne]
I feel sorry for you that water doesn't agree with you. You don't know what your missing to take a boat ride. Water is my lifeline...I am an Aquarius so you can see why. The view is the main reason I chose this apartment. It's great sitting on the balcony and watching all the ships coming and going. I missed the sailing of one of our aircraft carriers this morning...or during the night...not sure which. I love to go out to the coast about 20 miles away and sit and watch and listen to the waves crashing against the sides of the lava cliffs. Gotta go out and get some pictures now that I have a digital camera. Always nice to see you anne. + [gifana]
I am not a good sailor but I did enjoy the one cruise I went on (to Italy and Greece). You must have some awesome views from your window. I love the water and have always wanted to live near a beach. I also would love to travel to Portugal! I've only been to Barcelona in Spain, so I really need to see more of that country too. There are so many places in the world. At least Europeans travel; Americans only get two weeks of vacation a year and that is not nearly enough time to travel. [AnythngArt]
We enjoy sitting on the balcony and watching the world go in and out of the port. There is a beach just down to the left on the picture although not visible from here (see image). I lived in Barcelona in the early 60's and loved it. Used to go to the beaches at Casteldefels and Sitges...both not far to the south. There are lots of nice beaches here in Portugal in the Algarve, here in central Portugal on the Sun Coast (Costa do Sol) and in the north the Green Coast (Costa Verde). I have lived here in Portugal for almost 30 years and I prefer it much more that I did Spain with the exception of a few places, of course. Travelling is good for the soul when you can afford it. Thanks for dropping by again. + [gifana]
Well gifana are your bags packed already? Meet you at the Port:) After all a ship is one of the means of transportation where I don't get sick as strange as it sounds:) So you can see the port form your balcony? [arkaf61]
If I lean over the balcony just a little bit so as not to fall I can see part of Lisbon, the April 25th bridge and the Cristo Rei (Christ the King) statue on the far shore (see image). I always have at least one medium bag ready to go at a moments notice...just in case I win the lottery or someone rich does and leaves me a nice nest egg. + [gifana]
Queenmary once came to a nearby port city of mine as part of its world journey (Cochin). Some of my freaky friends exclusively went to see it . They said it was large and awesome . Its the largest luxurary cruise till now,am i right? I wish to get on it one day . i dont mind even it just not happens . Everyone has the right to wish. lol. Happy Myloting :-) [sean1986]
But as my mother used to say, "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." It didn't stop me from wishing though. Yes the Queen Mary 2 is for the moment the largest luxury cruise in operation. However, there is another one quite bit larger that is waiting to go into operation sometime in the near future. I have seen clips of it on English television and it is absolutely awesome. Always nice to see you sean. + [gifana]
