We recently got home from a long overdue vacation during CJ's school Spring Break.
Should have been a relaxing time but...
We went to Las Vegas for two nites where we stayed at the new Hilton on the Strip. We had to participate in a 90 minute time-share presentation but that wasn't to bad. We just said, 'No', after it was over. LOL
Right before we went on the time-share thing (which was the second morning we were in Vegas, and we were waiting in lobby for the presenter to show up - 30 minutes) Mark got a call on his cell phone from the FBI!!! I had filed a complaint online about a year ago concerning a website that had ripped me off of employment monies that were owed me.
We spent a few days with his family after that. CJ had a good Easter at least.
We headed back home via SouthWest where they proceeded to lose one of our bags (Mark had put the keys to vehicle and house in it, absentmindedly). We had arrived at 6 PM thinking that was great because CJ had to go back to school next day.
When our bag didn't show up we waited for other planes coming in until 11 PM...CJ was such a trooper; no melt-downs at all (and that's saying a lot with his Autism)...Mark had to hold me back from a melt-down (I was ready to sue everybody) as this was the fourth time in a row that they had lost our luggage.
The only reason we use them is that they're so cheap...Yeah, right. I wonder how long it will be before Mark decides to 'fork out' a bit more money on a reputable Airline...lol
So, they proceed to tell us that it's our problem and that they have 5 days to get our luggage to us. We were stranded and they wouldn't comp for a hotel room. We had to take a hotel shuttle from Airport to Hampton Inn and by that time it was after midnite...
Needless to say, we are back and I would rather not fly that Airline again, but, I don't make the money..!
Anyone else have a vacation from you know where?

Wow that was not such a fun time. I'm sorry you had to go through all that. You were so excited to go. I'm wondering how much of this however because of it being a cheap airline. My girlfriend took a bus trip and her luggage was lost too. She got it back eventually but it sure leaves you in a fix for awhile. I think people today are getting too careless and just plain not paying attention. If I was a betting person I would bet you're glad to be home. [Grandmaof2]
I surely am glad to be home. Hallelujah! I understand what you're saying about things getting lost from people who don't pay attention. I guess we have been one of the unlucky ones to have had ours lost 4 times in a row...LOL [cjsmom]
I have a very bad feeling toward Vegas. My last vacation whilde I was married was to Vegas. My ex insisted that his best buddy and wife meet us there and share our condo. It meant that our two teenage daughters had to sleep on the floor of our bedroom. To top it off, he wanted to have sex. I refused because the girls were in the room with us. My ex only did things that would include his buddy and so when I won a ticket to a show that I really wanted to go to, he refused because his buddy couldn't afford to go too. Who the heck's vacation was it? I also discovered on that vacation that my husband was addicted to gambling, not just drugs and alcohol. I hated that vacation and it was within two years that we divorced. I have a bad taste in my mouth anytime someone mentions going to Vegas. A vacation is meant to relax and enjoy yourself. Cutting all the corners and going cheap isn't the way to go about it. [loujac3]
You are so very right. Cutting corners and going cheap isn't the way to have a vacation. I'm so sorry that all happened to you in Vegas and I can totally understand about the ex and wanting sex. My first husband's best friend/our best man at wedding came on our honeymoon with us if you can believe that. We had to stay in a relative's old mini mobile and the best man slept on bottom bunk. My ex insisted that we have it with the guy right below us...Yuck [cjsmom]
Oh dear I'm so sorry to hear about the vacation problems. I would say my "worst" was ten years back we took a camping trip to Kentucky. Was orginally supposed to be a girlfriend of mine, her kids, myself and my kids but that changed. She backed out but was trying to get me to take her kids. I put my foot down on that, would have been me and 4 kids. Instead let my daughter take a friend so was just me and 3 kids - my youngest was 5 at the time. Well, got reservations at a camp ground for the AAA travel book but when we got there it was not at all a 5star rating. Pool closed due to contamination, showers were horrid, everything about the grounds was nasty... First night tornadoes, second night horrid thunderstorms, we came home 2 days early which was a first for me and camping. [byfaithonly]
Wow...sounds like the camping trips I used to have to take with ex's family. Glad to know I'm not the only one that's gone through these kind of things...LOL [cjsmom]
Wowza - trip from you know where all right. Glad at least YOU all made it home in one piece! When I was younger and before I was married, my job took me all over the world and I could tell you horror travel stories until the cows came home, but I'll keep it short with the time I flew to Hawaii. The plane was late getting off the ground, the champagne was warm and NOT bubbly - yech - and the stewardesses (yes that's what they still called them in those days!) were all pms-ing! It was a terrible flight and we were fighting head winds all the way. At one point over the Pacific there was a loud rattle/banging sound from the underside of the plane and people started freaking. But apparently whatever it was was dealt with pretty quickly and everyone settled down. As we were approaching the 'runway' into Wakiki airport on the main island the pilot comes on the intercom and says that due to the heavy headwinds we are now OUT OF FUEL and will be coasting on our landing! I look out the window and WHERE IS THE RUNWAY??? I can't see it and this sure ain't no seaplane I'm on! Well it seems there is a causeway runway that stretches out into the ocean for certain flights and we were right over it, which is why I couldn't see it. We managed to land safely (JUST) and I went to collect my luggage. Luggage? What luggage? Four hours later it was determined that my luggage was more than likely floating and/or sinking into the Pacific as that sound we had heard mid-flight was the bottom luggage doors flying open! Now most luggage is strapped in after loading, but it was the only explanation they could give me as a search showed that it had indeed been put on that plane! Did I get any compensation? No! Did I get an apology? No! Did I get a voucher for a discount on another flight? No! Did I fly that airline again? NO! [itsreallymefifty]
Don't worry - will put your name at the top of the list for advanced copies! Problem is, I'm having so much time writing it, I may never finish! lol [itsreallymefifty]
Fortunately for me I have never flown. Hubby wants to take a flight south, and guess with what airline! I guess if we ever go I should wear all of my clothing on the plane to insure that it makes it to our destination. The only vacations we have had were 3 day vactions that we drove to and back. The only problem I encountered was a grumpy driver bit@hing about the traffic, the heat, the people. [ElusiveButterfly]
Used to be that I couldn't wait to be able to fly but now, aarg! We usually only go by car as well. I know they keep saying that it's safer to fly but excuse me if I say, 'are they nuts?'...When you're in a plane you haven't any control, what-so-ever. When you're in a car and the driver, you at least can take some sort of control; if you see an accident about to happen you can try to avoid being in it... [cjsmom]
Oh man. You poor thing! There is nothing worse then starting a vacation thinking it's going to be a nice time and relaxing and ending with nothing but big ones! Glad you all got home safe and that CJ was such a trooper for you. That is a wonderful gift from God considering the circumstances! Remind hubby that next time it might be worth it to bite the bullet and get slightly more expensive tickets with an airline that tends to bring the luggage with the traveler! LOL [hockeygal4ever]
I'm glad that we got home safely as well and that CJ was such an 'angel'...Everytime I see a S.W. TV commercial I want to 'hurl'...lol. I'm praying also next time Mark will fork-out a tad more for a reputable or so-called reputable Airline... [cjsmom]
