Tom Cruise the action hero of MIs and the sweet chocolate face of Jerry Maguire and Tom Hanks the character hero of many movies like Philadelphia and even the dejected existentialist in Caste Away, who is your preference?

Tom Hanks all the way! He is much more versatile than Cruise, and is able to act with more depth. Tom Cruise is good, but it's hard for me to forget that I'm watching Tom Cruise and just get into his characters. With Tom Hanks, I get lost in the characters, whether it his pitiful character in Philadelphia or a great big kid like in Big. [questionthis]
Thanks a lot friend. I will just watch this space to get some honest opinions. And, here is a picture, I wanted to add to my posting and forgot! Silly me:) [ashjoe76]
with looks,go for tom cruise, but i think hanks got an edge over cruise when it came to acting!just my humble opinion guys! [nhot2arenas]
Tom Hanks is a wonderful actor...much better than Tom Cruise. I can't stand Tom Cruise..never could, really. When all my friends were "oohing and awwing" over him in Top Gun, I just didn't understand why. I don't like his looks or his acting. Tom Hanks is a very well rounded actor...he plays comedy wonderfully and can get drama down, too. I love Forest Gump and think he did wonderful in that movie. [chaygylmommy]
I admit that I have enjoyed a number of Tom Cruise movies over the years but, lately, his actions and personality in the media really get to me. So, I'm less inclined to want to watch his movies going forward. Tom Hanks, on the other hand, is one of my favorite actors. I have enjoyed him in every one of his movies (that I've seen so far) and I find he has a great range and is really versatile. He's good in comedy, drama, what have you. He'd be one of my first picks when choosing a movie :) [thinkingoutloud]
Don't make me choose, i LOVE them both! Love Tom Cruise' movies like Top Gun, Cocktail, my fave movie Jerry Maguire etcetera. And how can i not like Tom Hanks? Sleepless in Seattle with Meg Ryan, Big are one of my faves.^_^ [anjoks]
Am I allowed to say neither of them!? I guess Tom Cruise is handsome in a "pretty boy" kind of way, but neither of them have the character or appearance to move me, and I am not a fan of either of their movies. If there is one actor that moves me, I would have to say the Britisdh actor, Alan Rickman, probably best known to people in the States as the evil Sheriff of Nottingham in "Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves", but best own here in the UK, as a theatre actor. He is my acting hero! So sorry, Tom and Tom!! [rosie_123]
I prefer Tom Hanks both as an actor and as a person. He is the better actor (IMO) and he seems to be a true, caring, honest person. Tom Cruise is not a BAD actor by any means, but he is a horrible PERSON IMO. He spouts off at the mouth about things that he knows nothing about - like post partum depression. Obviously as a man he has never experienced post partum depression and has no clue what it is like. Just because his religion says that it doesn't exist doesn't mean that he should tell women that it doesn't exist, especially when there is medical proof to back up the claim that it DOES exist and can be very harmful or even fatal if ignored. Thank you for the best response! [thunderofsins]
I like both of them. They are very different in style and movie type. It's hard to pick one as being better then the other. Many of their movies I like but they are very different. Tom Cruise is more the action style drama movies and Tom Hanks does more of the comedy to drama movies that aren't big on action but emotions. I couldn't choose between them for which one I prefer. It would depend on the day and what type of movie I want to watch at the time. [emeraldisle]
I prefer Tom Hanks; he is a good and smart actor, and he seems down to earth for a celebrity. His role in Cast Away proved just how good he is, he was the only one in the whole movie practically, and it was still good. I used to like Tom Cruise also, but since he's gone scientologist on everyone, i don't like him so much. [jewel76]
I would have to say Tom Hanks. This is a very multi-talented man who is not afraid to takle diverse acting parts as well as direct them. Tom Cruise does well in the action movies but always seems to be more of himself than the part. [jbrooks0127]
I'm really not a fan of either of them, but I absolutely hated Tom Hanks in the Da Vinci Code! He was so wrong for that role in every way! But Tom Cruise is just plain looney these days with his scientology bullshit. [draconess]
Tom Cruise is to big headed and unlike able to me. even when he isn't there's still something which i dislike about him. Now Tom Hanks, is a great gay. I love most of movies and he's down to earth kind and really does care. i think mr cruise just wants to be famous and mr hanks ins't to bothered because he can drop and do nothing and still come back and be a true star. Cruise is finished imo. =) ~Joey [joey_matthews]
I really like both of them, I can't choose one of them because they are my favourite actor in hollywood. I like TomCruise playing action movies. [theKop]
i think i would prefer tom cruise because he is obviously more handsome. i dont really quite like tom hanks because i think that he is fatherly to look at.. quite old i think. tom cruise is a hunk and he is a handsome hank. but i prefer brad pitt. i think that brad pitt is the most goreous man alive in this planet. next is johnny depp!. [patrice7]
Tom Hanks, hands down! Hanks is a more versatile, interesting, and captivating character. He can make you laugh, make you cry, make you hate or love him in so many different ways. Tom Cruise's characters tend to be secondary in a film; he gives the chance for his supporting actor/actress to shine, simply because his talent is a secondary role-- Renee Z. in Jerry Maguire is a perfect example of a Cruise co-star stealing the limelight because of a much more interesting performance. With Hanks, on the other hand, he either shares equally or dominates the screen; he is almost never secondary! [leftnwrite08]
I prefer Tom Hanks....I just seem to like the characters he plays & he seems pretty flexible .... [paradisesuns]
Well, I can't stand Tom Cruise, and I think that he is way overrated. I really like Tom Hanks. He is a very versatile actor - meaning that he can play many faces of different characters. He did an excellent job in the movie 'Big' and it was so cool when they played "Chop Sticks" with their feet on that huge piano on the floor in the toy store. He also did an excellent job in the movie "Philadelphia." I haven't seen "Cast Away" yet, but would like to sometime. [mama_of_two]
I prefer Tom Hanks, I just do not get into the handsome hero thing. I like Tom Hanks soul. [GardenGerty]
Tom Hanks without a doubt for me. I think that Tom Cruise can be charming on the screen, or at least he used to be a long time ago, but he's just so weird off screen that it taints everything else for me. Tom Hanks is a more versatile and talented actor, and he seems to be a much nicer and more normal person too. [tentwo67]
Tom Hanks. I'm more entertained by the roles he plays. Tom Hanks has played the good guy, the bad guy, the poor guy, the rich guy, the dumb guy, the smart guy. Cruise however has always played the part as the hero no matter what his social status in the movie is. I also like the fact that Hanks isn't as controversial as Cruise. Cruise nowadays talks too weirdly and he seems to be out of touch with his old fans. I was once a Tom Cruise fan because of Top Gun. Cruise not only speaks out his mind but he enforces them for people to believe in it. [merkava]
I like Tom Hanks far better he seems so much more real. What you see is what you get. He does not try to appear mocho and I have never seen a bad movie with him in it. I think he is great! [bkfuels]
Tom Hanks is the better actor, but I would have to say I prefer Cruise's films (with the exception of 'The Green Mile', which is amazing). I think Tom Cruise is a bit self-obsessed, Mission Impossible 3 was basically just him saying 'Look at me, I'm fantastic'. That said, I really liked films such as 'Vanilla Sky', 'Eyes Wide Shut' and 'Jerry Maguire'. [randomosity_prevails]
Tom Hanks is a good actor but even Tom Cruise is also a good actor. [faraz007]
i like tom cruise more because i'm more of an action-movie guy [Sm00tH]
of course my choice would be Tom Hanks. he is so far better actor than Tom Cruise and a better person too. Hanks has not much involved in bad controversies like Cruise had in the past. Hanks versatility as an actor is so flexible that you can really separate himself to every character he portrays. Cruise acting is almost of the same style in his most movies although there are exceptions like Jerry Maguire which he did his role pretty well. Hanks has done his roles good in most of his movies and my choices are Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Big, to name a few. [chocobaby]
Tom Hanks is the better actor and the better person. He has an admirable career history to go along with his character as a person. I love watching all of his movies, even the old ones before he had really made a name for himself. Tom Cruise ruined his career by acting like a complete jerk publicly. I can't even eatch movies he's in now because of the impression he had left burned in my mind. Just like Russel Crow did. They have shown who they really are as a person which makes watching movies with them in it a less desirable experience. I think they have talent, but I can't stand either one of them. I like Tom Hanks all around, he ranks up there with John Travolta with the personality and talent. I think Tom Hanks ranks the highest. [jenalyn]
While I loved risky Business when it came out and I liked Jerry Magire, I LOATHE Tom Cruise. After that interview with Matt Lauer and all his Scientology bs, I just can't stand him and refuse to see or pay for another movie he is in. I LOVE Tom Hanks. I think he is funny and a great dramatic actor. [Gigglygrrl]
Definitely Tom Hanks.. with maturity and experience in acting.. hehehe i guess Tom hanks is such a colorful actor you can put him in any film you would possible to imagine. [webbuff]
