Kids will be going back to school next week. We teachers, however, go back tomorrow. I don't want to!
This time of night has been my best myLotting time, until about 3 AM. Now I have to get up between 3:30 and 4:00 every morning and work myself silly until 2:30 each afternoon. Add meetings, seminars, etc., and it's usually about 5PM. Those kids will keep me going -- laughing and sharing ideas all day long. A couple of them will even learn something!
Good night, my friends. I'll be limited on school days from now on, but I've learned to love myLot too much not to check in, at least, for a little while each night. cry

It's interesting seeing the teacher's perspective when I am a student, I'll be in my last year of high school on the 26th, and I too will lose a lot of time here! I will wake up at 6:30am and then get home at 3:20, then I have to work at Walmart and deal with more people until about 11pm each night, I will be doing so much crap, it really sucks haha. I hope I get some relaxing days in between all of that hard work, I will probably lose weight from never being home haha, oh well, all of this is for my month long trip to Sweden this December, so I will plow through it no matter what haha! Good luck with getting back to school yourself, I would go crazy being a teacher grading things, making lesson plans, and dealing with students all the time, I admire you for keeping your cool! [sugarplum9084]
Thanks, Sugarplum! A trip like that is definitely worth the hard work that's required. Don't forget, there are a lot of expenses connected with being a senior. But it's worth it! You get a diploma when it's over, and that means sooooo much! [cobrateacher]
I applaud you for having the most honorable (and often least well compensated) of professions. We'll miss your postings, but thank heaven for you and everyone who will spend their time educating our youth! [SamQuinn]
Hey, Sam! The pay leaves a lot to be desired, but it's a wonderful career, and I admit I had tears in my eyes this morning when I gave notice for retirement. It's still 5 years off, but we have to apply to retire each year for the final 5. The computer had some problems, so I wasn't able to see who's going to be in my classes. That's more curiosity than anything else, because there's not a thing I can do about it. Whoever they are, I'll be crazy about'em by the end of next week! [cobrateacher]
Good luck Teach. Hope your able to teach those snotty nose kids something this year.I know the routine. My wife did 25 years. It is extremely hard and long work with not much reward to speak of. Except when one of those kids you thought would never amount to anything comes up to you in Walmart or a gas station and tells you how much you did for them when they were in school. It happens. Not as often as maybe it should but it does happen. Good Luck with your school year. [eeyore39]
Congratulations!!! Don't get that head of yours stuck in the clouds though your new students need you also. One little phone call makes it all worth while. [eeyore39]
Cobra We will miss you. You best stay in touch. I spend most of my time responding to your posts. I know you love your job, I can tell by the way you talk about it. I bet you're a great teacher!! You have been staying up later than me. I thought 2:30 was late. Good luck tomorrow. leenie [leenie50]
Thanks, Leenie. We didn't stay long today because nobody had the keys to the supply rooms, and the computers wouldn't bring up the gradebook, but it was almost as if we'd never left! I'll be a lot better about it when the kids come in next week. I need all the good luck I can get, and I thank you for your wishes. [cobrateacher]
oh, have to say goodbye for a while, we all have great fun here. i am a teacher too but don't enjoy a vacation like you . so you are luckier. [gabbana]
it's ok, i am quite used to that. and i like keeping engaged all the time, of course i need occasional off-days for travelling, all i need is daysoff for travelling. [gabbana]
Vacation is beautiful, but work is the most important, you must have a good vacation, when you are back school you will see children's smile,it's wonderful. [zhaosonghan]
You are absolutely right! I love 'em all! [cobrateacher]
Yes, life goes on. Anyway, your experience is good teacher and you learned from it everything. Take care! [dheal888]
Frankly, it's a really exciting time! I feel as if each school year is another new beginning, and I like any excuse to do better than before. The kids I work with are, with very few exceptions) wonderful young people! [cobrateacher]
Oh my dear friend we will miss you and also your comments. But you have one of the be professions in the world so keep it up and we will see you soon. xoxoxoxo [valeria1]
The good thing is that you are a teacher and have lots of vacations throughout the year! I would say that is a pretty good deal in itself. Plus you get holiday pay for thanksgiving, christmas, and easter! how many people with non-teaching jobs can actually say that! I wish I could be a teacher! [shell1986]
We're actually paid for only 212 days a year, so there's a lot of unpaid time. Most of our time off is spent grading papers, planning projects, et. Teaching really is a 24-hour job. Every beginner I've ever met who even thinks about the time off as part of the job is gone before long. Many, in fact, don't return after Thanksgiving, because that's when they realize there's so much work that has to be taken home! The best part of teaching has nothing to do with time off. It's the time we spend in the classroom with a large group of fantastic kids! [cobrateacher]
