What Do You Think About Educational Tours

My little cute little girls' school is going for a long trip to one of the spots in another city. It cost more money and I am just thinking if that educational tour is worth the expense. The bad thing is that the assembly time is too early being 2 a.m. Then I tried to remember the times that I had joined some educational tour. It is not really an educational tour but a sight-seeing and spending tour. What do you think about educational tours? Are they worth it?

some of them are, not sure about all of them... [dawnald]

I think that educational tours are very good for kids. I am not sure about advantage of 2 AM assembly time. That the worst time to start. Going to different city is the other story. How old are your girls? If older than 12, I wouldn't worry about. For younger? I would think twice if I want to send them. If someone is over 12, every tour is educational and also safe. Kids get easy lost on tours. hugs [polachicago]
I agree with polachicago learn2earn. 9 years old! Her education needs to be in around her school and home. She wont understand or appreciate anything! [vandana7]

Well it really depends on where they are going and what they are going to see. I always think that's it's a wonderful experience to travel as a child but if the places you are going to have nothing special to offer a curious young mind then I don't think it would be worth it. Where is the trip to? [eponce09]

Hi learn2earn, My son's school requires their students to join in their yearly educational tour. It's not really that expensive, the parents are only made to pay for the fuel of the school bus and the entrance fees of the places they will go to. Mostly they visit museums, zoos, libraries and other historical landmarks. And i think it's worth spending for. Not only that the children will learn from it, they also get the chance to travel without their parents tugging them around. [Gareth126]
I am glad that you are sending your child to such educational tours. [learn2earn]

I don't see the need to have educational tour for the children. There was no such event when it was my time and I am no lesser now without having gone to any educational tour. Paying exorbitant fees for that outing is questionable as you might never know the organizers are taking a cut from each participant. The best thing is, you can always bring your children to visit interesting places and be their guide. I think they will enjoy more with their papa. When my kids were little I always make a weekend gateaway so they can experience new places and learn new things along the journey as we travel.duncecap [zandi458]

Well,it is nice because it's a great experience for the kids, and a good way of exposure. It can also helps develop the kids personality.Have a nice day. [Hazelrose]

When it comes to educational tour we only end up going to Manila Zoo and National Museum and Coco cola Manufacturing. I don't remember learning something but I truly enjoyed the event because I was outside school and I was with my close pal. I think the facilators failed to explain to us the meaning of the tour, of what advantages we could get by participating. They just brought us there, lineD up and look for the animals and machines and some historical landmarks documented. There was an reaction paper assignment after which we were obliged to submit a week after but that was based on our own reaction about the events and not what we have learned from it, because while we are on the tour, no one was explaining anything about it. I believe educational tours will be more a good one if the facilitators will explain something about where they are going. LIke a tour educators whom are inside the bus as the tour progress. She or He can help the student to fully understand the meaning of educational tours. [grecychunny26]
Oh, during your elementary days you always have an educational tours? your school must be rich lol. Me we only have once a year, meaning one grade per year. After that educational tour we went to Eat Bulaga. And for another year we went again to Eat Bulaga. We did not learned anything from Eat Bulaga, but we saw Vic Sotto and we enjoyed him a lot! rofl [grecychunny26]

i think it is worth to take such a educational tour because you can learn a lot of knowledge outside text book. in chinese tradition, there is one sentence, to walk ten thousand metres is more useful than read one thousand books. i think it is worh to take the tours, and i will be useful to your daughter. [slbwyc]

I think she is much too young. She wont remember anything! How much do we remember? I am definitely with you on this. But the child may feel only she's been denied the permission! Couldn't you come up with alternate exciting plan with family? That way she wont realize it. [vandana7]
wow that's a sweet alternative for the school trip I hope your family would enjoy a lotniceday [hexeduser22]

i think it is kind of worth of it. at least she'll be with her girlfriends and have fun with them during the trip. or if you can drive her to that spot on the weekends on your free time that would also be nice.. you'll have a mother and daughter bonding :) [chocolatelle]

Educational tours or field trips are learning experience outside the classroom. The trips supplement classroom learning by providing students with an opportunity to see the actual places, artifacts, flora and fauna or phenomena that are described in textbooks and lectures. They also enrich the students experiences by exposing them to situations that are new to them. Educational tours may also be undertaken by family groups, whether homeschooling or not. At the vocational and college level, highly specialized field trios may be taken in order for students to gain firsthand knowledge on their major. [sivaram4office]

As what the others say, some are good ones but others are not. As you've said, others are just for sight seeing. But being there so early is crazy...like your daughter must really sleep very early just to wake up that time... Hopefully she will not go to sleep while at the bus to enjoy the whole tour. Anyway, during my school days. I am not into educational tours actually...or our school doesn't conduct any educational tours. I think they are just afraid that something might happen to us and they will be responsible for it. [joannaleed]

Hi learn2earn, I feel educational tour is must for every child. This makes the child not only knowledgable but also self confident and self sufficient which, I feel,is necessary in todays' world. So if it is possible, I think you should send your cute little girl. Regards. [titansaha]

my educational tours are like timepassing with freinds only but we earn experience after going to other cities or places with frnds [ginnie12345]

Hi , I would think so, even if it is called a educational tour, it does help the children to adjust to others and about group living. This is as important as book knowledge, because social behavior to makes a person what he is....I managed to somehow send my children to all the tours that the school organised and I could see them benefitting in some way or the other from them...all the best and have a great Sunday happy [kiran8]

Educational tours are a wonderful way for a child to learn about a new place. The only thing with that is I personally feel that an educational tour should be conducted with supervision, and it would be best for kids aged 13 and up. My nephew was only 9 at the time he was to take an educational tour to California, my sister-in-law would have let him go but she felt that something would go wrong and she too could not accompany him. He never got to go, yes he was upset but still, for safety reasons it's better to wait until a child is older than 12 years of age. It's a bit rediculous to start at 2AM, and also not to allow parents to accompany their kids isn't right in my eyes. Think more about what you want to do, whether to allow your little ones to go or not. Remember it's better to be safe than to worry and wonder what is going on. [ElizabethArchut]

Educational tour will be beneficial to your child. As a part of growing up, educational tour has a psychological effect. It will help her emotionally, socially, and mentally.Whether it is a sight seeing or not, going out through a tour with classmates can help her be better especially in building her self-confidence.Time can't be brought back, so her experiences will be something which she could treasure and will serve as a teacher to her as she faces the future. The learning she 'll have can't be compensated with money. So, I suggest, let her experience it.You may not allow her go but maybe for unavoidable circumstances.I've experienced educational tours and it's really worth it.Surely, as long as I can afford the expenses,I will not deprive my child of joining too an educational tour. [bren_yrra]
Yeah, you're right. We can go this vacation time when you're not so busy with many things.lol [learn2earn]

Educational tours are good but I agree with the responder who said that below 12 years old is still subject for parent accommodation. 2 am assembly time? where would they take your children? The earliest assembly time I ever had was 5 am and that was for my ROTC tour in Corregidor. I find it hard to believe that students in that age should be travelling that early for a school tour but that's just me, maybe the rules have changed now compared to my usual school trip when I was young [hexeduser22]

In my view they are great, especially when you are below 10 years of age. Letting the children interact with the society encourages learning and also freedom. If you notice closely, children at tour usually stay together so i think this concept also develops unity and a feeling of security when with friends. I have been to many such trips and enjoyed them a lot! I can't simple get those days back! So if you get a chance, NEVER miss! [santhosbaala]
