hi everybody here at Mylot!
i just want to know, what is the longest period of time that you and or your family members have spent time on vacation...at one time...not several different trips...
where did you go on vacation? did you camp out? did you go to vegas? did you go to a beach? did you go to a casino?
thanks for sharing!
Vacation - did you know?
Vacation is a term used in English-speaking North America to describe a lengthy time away from work or school, a trip abroad, or simply a pleasure trip away from home, such as a trip to the beach that lasts several days or longer.
In the rest of the English-speaking world the word holiday is used, whereas in North America, "holiday" normally applies to a specific national holiday or long weekend related to such a day.
In some cases "vacation holiday" is used in North America, which signifies that a vacation trip is taken during a traditional national holiday period, extended on either end of the period by taking additional time off from work—creating a longer time unencumbered by work, an extended "long weekend", as it were. This practice is common in the United States where employers give far fewer annual vacation days than European employers—so stretching the related national holidays tends to conserve one's accumulated total of eligible days available for longer quality vacation excursions.

I'm a Canadian who lives and works in Ontario Canada from April to November each summer. Then I drive 2000 miles to South Texas USA to my winter home. I live in McAllen Texas from November to April. The weather is tropical, and I have a Grapefruit and Banana growing behind the house. Its about 25 minutes to Mexico. Its a great place to vacation because you can go swimming almost every day. hello that sounds nice working in Canada and then going to Texas for the rest of the year. i have never been to Canada and i have just been to the Dallas, Texas airport. i like grapefruits and bananas. yum. i bet both places are really beautiful. thanks. [RLFinNash]
the longest vacation i have ever taken was several years ago. It began on may 27th and lasted until September 9th. I went to Arkansas to visit my cousin for the summer. She had just moved in with her dad that she never really knew and i went down to keep her company as she got here bearings. All in all it was very fun, i live on the east coast so its amazing to me to see how "alien" other states can be in my own country. One con to it was when i walked outside at 3am to have a smoke it was still so hot and humid i couldn't breathe without it sort of burning. If you ask me that's just too much! I pity those who live there always! [socorban]
hi that was nice of you to go to Arkansas with your cousin...i live in Tennessee and we also have the same humidity here...it has been awful here lately....and it is terrible not to be able to smoke a cigarette outside because of it. thanks. [RLFinNash]
the longest vacation i have taken was when my two sisters and myself brought our mother when she was still able to travel (before her alzheimers)to europe and the holy land. we were away for almost three months. we had so much fun and it was sort of bonding time for us. no husbands and kids. [tuffy999]
hello that sounds like a fun time going to europe and the holy land. i have never been anywhere over seas before. i would love to go somewhere like that sometime thou. and that was nice that you-all didn't have to take the kids or your spouses with you-all. i have a dear girlfriend and her mom has alzheimers also...it is so sad...she just had to put her mom in a nursing home. thanks for replying. hagd. I took a two months vacation to austrlia, and it is the longest vacation i ever took. I just needed time off work, and my bf went to work there, so i told my boss that i am going to a vacation and i will keep in touch during the vacation. i think that it is one of the most enjoyable things i ever did. [liranlgo]
hi wow on going to australia for two months. and you sure do have a great boss for giving you that much time off as well. what all did you do while you were there? i have never been to australia before, but would love to go there sometime. thanks. [RLFinNash]
The longest time I spend my time with my family in Philippines is 3 months after I go back in Kuwait for my worked. [cherylal]
hi wow i cannot imagine having a two month or a three month vacation...are you in the military? if so, what branch of the service are you in? thanks. [RLFinNash]
The longest "holiday" I have taken in my adult life is 3 weeks. In general most companies in the UK do not like their staff to book off more than 2 weeks off at one time but many of them will allow you to take 3 or even 4 weeks off. If one is going on a long haul holiday (e.g. UK to India or Australia) it is preferable to have at least 3 weeks holiday time to gain the most out of it :) [anonymili]
hello cool on taking three weeks off from work...where did you go during those three weeks? or did you just hang out at home? and i agree with you, the more vacation time the better. thanks. hagd. [RLFinNash]
So far for me, it's been 2 days. I never had the time to take a vacation before I had chidlren due to the jobs I held. Now I have children, it's to hard. Both of my girls are asthmatics to the extreme, so traveling away from home isn't always easy. [sunshinecup]
hi what did you do during your two days off? did you go somewhere or hang out at your house? sorry to hear that both of your girls are asthmatics. thanks. hagd. [RLFinNash]
The longest that I have ever spent on a vacation is two weeks. I do not like to go on a vacation for a long time because I get bored in one place. [rogue13xmen13]
hello what did you do with your two weeks that you had on vacation? thanks. [RLFinNash]
i think the longest was 11 days. we went to florida and went to disney world and universal studios. plus we drove there and back so we did sight seeing on the way there and back. [jannyw]
hello that sounds awesome going to disney world and universal studios for eleven days. that's great! thanks for responding and hagd. [RLFinNash]
I goto Thailand for 3 months of the year. But I currently live and travel around New Zealand. Started in the northern part of New Zealand and I am making my way down to the south of the south island :) I tend to spend a few months at each location (job permitting) and then move on, currently at a place called Kenleith just outside Hamilton in the middle of the north island. Next is Rotorua (aka Rotovegas) and then Taupo but I am scheduled to be in Thailand November 1st so I might extend my stay in Kenleith an extra month and then goto Thailand. Also this is my second year traveling NZ and I am only 1/4 of the way. I shouldn't be but already have, planning my next travel to do Australia . Which will be 2010 :D [trinsic]
wow it must be awesome to go to Thailand for three months out of the year...so you get to travel around with your job? what do you do for a living? thanks. hagd. [RLFinNash]
