Whats The Best "vacation" You Ever Took As A Family When You Were A Kid

Mine was a week at a state cabin in a state park in the mountains. It wasn't anything particularly expensive or high priced and trendy but the memories we made we can still laugh about today!

When we went to Monterrey, Mexico to visit a Godfather of one of my sisters. We had fun and we had BBQ chicken and spent time with that family. [mimatexas]

When I was 8 year old we went to Florida for a week. (I live in Norway) it was such a long travel , but visiting Disney World was worth it all for a 8 year old girl. [Miriel]
Would you believe I've never been to Disney? LOL I've had opportunities but my kids weren't with me and I could NOT bring myself to go without them. [hockeygal4ever]

Mine was with our family and another family on a trip to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland (kind of like the equivalent of Florida in the US). There were five kids altogether and 4 adults. We went to see the "Big Pineapple", swam every day at pristine (and then, deserted beaches), visited Noosa, went horseriding...and got into trouble for putting bubble bath in the spa of the place where we were staying. It WAS lots of fun - part of the reason was my friend's father who is such a character and completely oblivious to his effect on other people. Too long a story to go into now but suffice to say he left his mark with a few of the natives. I still think about that holiday and laugh even though it was so long ago now. [urbangirl]

My parents took me to The North Pole Santa Claus Workshop in Colorado Springs their was little shops to shop in a train to ride Santa's house with Santa and elves places to feed the animals and cable cars that you could ride and see all around cause it is located at the base of Pikes Peaks Mountain I will never forgot going their with my parents and I want to take my own children their. We went to Jasper, AB, when i was 14. We camped in the mountains and had a great time. My dad passed away 3 months later. That trip is the greatest memory I have of my father. [Brookesmom]
How wonderful for you to have that chance! [hockeygal4ever]

I was just thinking of my favorite vacation spot as a kid when I came upon your discussion lol. For me it was this beach condo that we went to once a year or less. Like your favorite place, it was nothing expensive or fancy. We just had so much fun spending the night in a place away from home. We had a great view of the bridge over the ocean and at night it was breathtakingly beautiful. We loved that condo so much. I dont even remember what we did during the day but at night sometimes we would walk down to the community pool and swim. [fluffyfrog]

Among all the family trips I've been on, my favorite one has been a houseboat trip. My family and some friends rented a houseboat for a week or so, and it was amazing. Boating, making various forts, waterskiing, intertubing, chatting, sleeping outside on the houseboat roof, etc. was amazing. The whole thing seems like an adventure and I was able to try so many new things on the trip. I don't know, I guess I've always loved boating outings, they're just so energy and fun-filled. [Meg109]

Iam from India. My best vacation as a kid was a trip to mussourie a hill station in India! The Vacation was very enjoyable with my parents and little brother. That was the first time I had visited any hillstation and it was such a memorable experience and will always remain evergreen in my heart! I don't know if you could really call it a vacation...When I was little we used to live in Newport, Oregon, close to the beach... We'd go on occasion down to the shore and look for agates and play in the water. That's the best memory I have and I wish I could do it again with my son, CJ. He'd love to look for shells and agates... [cjsmom]

I always loved going to the beach. It was great! [mommydearest]

As a family we rented a cabin on the ocean for 1 week...it wasn't fancy by any means...it was a 1 room cabin that was the bedroom, living room, kitchen...we had the best time..the beach was right outside and we coud run and play all day...My aunt and uncle lived only a few miles away and they would drive over in the evening for our big beach fire...she was an incredible baker...as was my mom...so every night at our campfire we were treated to homemade pies and nothing ever tasted so good. To run on the beach all day and swim ( I thought I was a fish...I'd stay in the water until the dragged me out!) and make sand castles and then get great "camping"meals...it was awesome and to this day I carry very distinct memories of such innocence and whole hearted freedom of spirit...I was a beach baby and still am...a walk on the beach will soothe my soul anytime...The week we spent there seemed endless and I loved that...I even loved my brothers that week ( I dearly love them all)...I think I ate very few mud pies or worms during the vacation..too much fun being had by all to spend any time torturing the little sister....Thanks for asking the question..it brought back some great memories I'm going to email my brothers about... [rx4life]
Most welcome! I had hoped to stir up some smiles and memories! [hockeygal4ever]

My dad was a cheap pr|ck, am i allowed to say that ? lol, anyways he never took us anywhere. i dont think i'd like to have been stuck in a car with him for any length of time anyways! he was cheap AND mean. [Sissygrl]
LOL... sounds like my exhusband got around? :-D [hockeygal4ever]

My favorite vacations were always going to Oklahoma to visit my father's side of the family. I absolutely loved it there, and I loved my grandma and Aunt Karen especially. I spent a lot of time with them every time that we went, especially since we almost always stayed with my grandma when we were visiting. We would also visit other aunts and uncles while we were there. I just adore my dad's side of the family, and it's been awhile since I saw any of them, but we used to go once a year for about a week at a time. My best friend even got to come along a few times. It was great. [shywolf]
It does make it even more wonderful when you can share these moments with a best friend. It's like putting the icing on the cake. [hockeygal4ever]

Ours was the first real vacation which we took with our children. We went to the South of Ireland and rented a mobile home for two weeks. The weather was glorious and almost every day was spent at the seaside. We picked cockles and cooked them every night for supper. Of course nobody ate them except myself but it was fun picking them and the children saved all the shells to take home. [Alexandria37]

mine was a trip to another country by car. i live in malysia and we drove down to thailand and from thailand to the burmese border.lol i was tired to the bone and the trip back was even more crazy.we had to sleep in a hotel in thailand for a few days cos the journey wa so exhausting and we were running out of cash.the villages there had no banks and there was no way of getting fuel that had not been mixed with water! [javabeans]

I had so many happy holidays as a child. We always went away during the school summer holidays for two weeks. We almost always went to the seaside and this was in the UK. We used to go to Weston Super Mare for many years as a my grandparents had a holiday flat there. I loved playing on the beach, going in the sea, building sandcastles, going on the pier, going for walks. I liked to walk along from the flat to the shops where we used to see some gnomes in a garden and I go so excited about seeing them. I gave them all names and my sister liked to look out for them also. We also went to the park there and enjoyed the swings etc. I always loved going to Weston I think it was probably my best holiday that I ever had as a child. [organiclady35]

The best family vacation that me and my family had together had to be our trip to Hawaii when I was a child. i still have wonderful memories of being there and seeing all the beautiful spots there and all the nice people. Being able to spend time with my cousins and other relatives and being on the nice beaches. The food was great there. I felt like I was in paradise and I know my family enjoyed being there too. Just wish it was not so expensive to go or stay there. [kgwat70]

The best vacation I had when I was a kid was our stay in the Smokey Mountains. We had two cabins. One for the boys and one for the girls. There was always something going on at the lodge. They had a game room and a teen dance every night. During the day we hiked up and down the creeks skipping rocks. We went back to the cabins for lunch. The real reason I'll always remember this trip was it was 1969 and I watched the lunar landing at the lodge. . your friend [EdwardF]

Well to be honest we never took any as such. We only ever went to see Grandparents, Family or things like that. My Mum would never take us on Holiday as such. Even as Adult I have hardly been anywhere but that is also down to the fact that I am scared of flying lol I have never flown and I hope I will never have to. [gabs8513]
