When Going On Vacation, Do You Pack The Night Before

Or do you need weeks in advance? I can pack in a matter of one hour. I don't even use a suitcase, just my big travel bag. I don't need weeks to do it, but I know some people who do. How about you?

My wife is very cautious and packing is done 24 hours before going. The check list is ticked off once again to ensure that those things are kept: 1. Camera, 2. gifts for people whom we meet at vacation palce (in most places we have relatives where we stay normally), handkerchiefs, a few tabels for preventing omitting (my wife), to prevent headaches, bodyaches, personal toileteries, extra pairs of socks, air-pillow, eatables prepared at home (since I avoid buying junk food outside), Credit cards and cash (some places cards are not accepted), clothes. Very well-planned, ssh. Thank you [Druscilla34]

Pack the night before? heeheehahaha I usually pack while I'm heading out the door. I keep a small backpack at all times that has my essentials in it. No clothes are in it. I have gone on week long trips before and taken no more than that backpack and the clothes I'm wearing, Druscillia. Of course, I usually buy more clothes while I'm on the trip. I don't wear the same clothes the entire time, or even more than a day. I just get more. I can't stand to pack. Can you tell that? I learned this little trick of not taking a big suitcase with me by accident some years ago. I had packed for a trip to Hawaii. I got on the plane and had a little bit of a 'freaking out' moment because I am terrified of flying. I was kindly escorted off of the airplane, but my luggage went on to Hawaii. Since I had a couple of weeks off and a lot of vacation cash on me, I decided not to let a little thing like that stop me from having fun, so I went to Disney World. I mean, I went out to my car in the parking lot of Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, got in the car and drove straight to Disney World. I didn't have a bit of luggage except for my little red backpack. I bought all the clothes I needed for the time I was there and learned that that is the only way to travel. [Transdisc]
That sounds much like the way i travel, except of course for the contents of my purse.. There could be anything in there. [CurlyRed]

Usually it take me one hour or so, to pack things and i used to put all those things which i am to take,at a point in my house, then take a travel bag... dump those items in it and would leave the house.. One interesting incident, i would like to share here.. just as i said above,i packed my bag and left my house,on a pilgrimage, without taking any money, and i boarded the bus, luckily i had some CHANGE in my pocket ..and i got ticket to the nearest place, with the available CHANGE in my pocket. I got down there and went to my friends house and borrowed from him some money and proceeded the tour. [saivenkaat802003]

My mother is one who packs way ahead. The spare bedroom will have open suitcases, all organized. Hers and my Dad's. She makes sure they have coordinating outfits for each day. She rolls or folds everything a specific way so it wont wrinkle. She has big lists and flow charts to do this. It is insane! I just throw what i think i will need in a bag, maybe a grocery bag, OH! and grab my makeup! [CurlyRed]
This is exactly how I used to pack, exactly!!!! I would make lists, I would roll and fold meticulously. Now.....not a chance. LOL. I have no idea what happened to my organizational skills. I blame myLot. [dfn12968]

I am a very, very last minute packer. I did not used to be this way, so I don't know what has changed, but now I wait until the night before or sometimes the night of if I'm leaving on a red eye or early morning flight. I used to be really rigid. I'd make lists weeks in advance and check and cross things off as they were packed. I still do make a list, but it's a very random, makeshift list. I forgot more things now that I'm so last minute. [dfn12968]

well with my 3 young babies it's just easier for me to pack a head of time either when they are sleeping or at grandmas,so i say before time.pattie [3lilangels]

Hello Druscilla My bags are always packed Honey! No, but seriously, that is true. I suppose it is because of my instinctic nature and the strong traveller genes in me, not to mention the hairdresser must always be ready to work. And of course, partly circumstances, very influential circumstances in my life now and previously, have made up the fact that I am always ready to go. Nowadays, however, I do not have any clothes packed as such, just important papers, very few now, as I have trimmed myself to a bare minimum, owning nothing but the small rolling suitcase. If clothes were to be packed, I'd be ready in a split second. I mean, if I were going anywhere, it would be the fun I'd be going for, not the clothes LOL Off to the beach with me then! Hi again, haha! I always pack my stuff,my daughters and my boyfriends the night before. We have our own seperate bags and pack each of them separatly. If i left this to my boyfriend(his),he would throw some clothes in at the last 10 minutes before leaving and forget his underwear,as if he needs it!Hahaha!Hes not a person who knows how to pack. Peanutjar:) [peanutjar]

I always pack the night before, because it's easier and if you leave clothes in your bag for too long they become creased, my suitcase is packed away and it just clutters up the place if I get it out too soon. It's a routine I've always done, got used to, and find best that works for me. [wolfie34]

I definatly procrastonate when it comes to packing. i dont think that anyone actually likes to do it. I usually do it within like an hour of me going to the airport, and it usually ends up being way to much clothes for my trip. I honestly pack the suitcase as full as i can get it even if i am just leaving for a few days. LOL [bcote212]

When going on vacation, I usually start planning, making packing list, things to do before leaving, etc. a couple of weeks in advance. I start the actually packing a day or two before leaving, normally as I do the laundry, I do the packing, that way I don't have to worry about doing any laundry at the last minute. If it's going to be a couple of days of driving, I normally pack a small tote bag with what I would need at a hotel. I normally pack the car the night before we leave, except what will be needed that morning. I can and have packed at the last minute, and if it's just a weekend trip, I normally pack the day before and ready to go. It also takes a little planning if it's going to be a roadtrip on the Harley, as you can't take as much. [palonghorn]

Hi Druscilla, I pack the evening before I want to travel, or even same day when I dont have to leave my home too early. Like you I am also able to pack in an hour. [book1962]

I can pack in an hour though. But when I know weeks before about the trip I usually pack up somethings 2 days before and do last packing an hour before the trip. I usually have checklist too. To avoid some things forgotten specially if its a long trip. Better prepared than being lost out somewhere and got nothing to use. Like first-aid kits, medicines which is always necessary in my view. I might not need it but maybe one of company on the trip will need it. [liera0]

I pack several times, I can't help it. I pack about a week in advance, then I always end up repacking, then doing it at least one more time before we go. I think about it way too much and usually end up taking too much of the wrong things. I know wherever I go we could find access to a washer and dryer so not sure why I have to pack for a month to go away for a week - guess it's just me! It drives me crazy that my husband packs the night before or the morning of. I usually end up packing him more though because he doesn't take enough. Of course all he needs is a few t'shirts and some jeans and undies and socks and he's good to go. [kimberlylynn]

well if i go out on a holiday i do all my packing a week back in this way make myself free from packing stress, hope most of folks out there do their packing in such way [jamaicanwizard70]

i guess it depends what time we are leaving the morning... if im taking a flight at say 4-8 am i will pack the night before so when i wake up all i have to do is throw it in the truck and off to the airport... after 8 am im pretty good at just packing the day of.. i will do the laundry or the cloths that i want to take the night before if i have to... other than that im pretty good with the packing [nichole1983]

When I hear that I am going on a trip, that is when I start planning what I am going to wear. I write it down. I start from my head to toe and I write it down what I am going to wear and which day. Then I pack the night before. I just follow the lost. That way I don't forget anything. [sarahruthbeth22]
