When You Go On A Trip, Or Take A Vacation

Do you allow enough time to rest up before you have to go back to work? In June, we went to Minnesota, came back, answered phone calls, then went to Oklahoma, then I went to work the next morning. I spent this weekend all over the Ozarks in Missouri, and I have to go to work in about twenty minutes.thumbdown We left at midnight Friday night, got home at 10:00 pm., Sunday evening. We had a good time, it is time to go to work, though. I need a vacation from my vacation.w00t I am glad I have a job, though.

Yes I always go on a vacation in the month of june. Because mind also need to rest and refresh itself. So it's good to go on a vacation. [dsnachiever]
We do need frequent vacations. I am always tired when I come back, though. [GardenGerty]

I wish that I could say that I did rest before I went back to work but I am so like you. I am so excited about my vacation that I want to wring every last drop out of it. Usually, I leave as early as I can and come back as late as I can. I don't think about only getting a couple of hours sleep before I have to go back to work. I'm too focused on having fun! [LaurenInLA]
I am trying to learn to manage my time off a little better, so I am not so desperate by the time I go on a trip. [GardenGerty]

Hi Gerty, I haven't taken a proper holiday in six years but when I used to it seemed to be a mad rush of washing everything and then back to work the next day. When I go up to the mountains now I always stop off in town for a few hours on the way back so with the long drive I usually make sure before I leave that there's nothing waiting for me to do when I get back. I did rush back the other weekend as knew I had to go off to do some work sometime after 2pm but it turned out to be 7.30 before I needed to head off and do it. [thea09]
But I live where everyone else wants to come on holiday Zed, sea, beaches, mountains, friendly people, so much to yet explore.happy [thea09]

I've never had a real vacation. The only ones I've had were when we went to visit the inlaws for a week every summer and I was a stay at home mom. Still, coming home just to start my regular routine all over again right away from the time we walked in the door...I think people should have at least a day of peace and quiet and no chores when they get home. Having all that thrown at you after having a good time and wearing yourself out is a little much! [dragon54u]
When my family was at home, I was mostly stay at home or part time employed, but I still seemed to need a mental transition. I did not get that this time. [GardenGerty]

We are always on the go, we've had to pack and be in another state within two days so sometimes our moves can be exhausting. Our vacations are taken when we have time to relax there and when we get back. Sounds like you are car jetting all over the place. [gitfiddleplayer]
I got to enjoy some beautiful scenery, and make some new friends and new memories. Often being in the car and traveling is the one time my husband and I pay attention to what we each are saying. [GardenGerty]

I have heard a lot of People say this When I used to have Holidays from Work, I used to spend it at home with the Children, there was never any Money to go away But I have heard this said by many People that they feel they need a Vacation now from their Vacation lol [gabs8513]
We seldom had money to travel when the kids were little unless it was some big todo with his family. We do not have much money now, but I missed out on a lot with hubby one, so want to spend extra time with hubby two. [GardenGerty]

usually my vacations are so busy that yes, I need more time before I go back to work. I never take any though. This year, I took a month off and actually spent most of the month relaxing. [cutepenguin]
That probably felt really good to do. I actually spent one evening really relaxing while we were gone, and it is so good to do that. [GardenGerty]

No i never leave enough time to get a rest before going back to work. I wanna spend every last possible minute on vacation. I love going away on holiday it is the best thing ever! [goldiegold]
I think so too. I have to go away or work keeps calling me. [GardenGerty]

When I go on a vacation I usually allot one day of rest before I go back to work. It's not a very nice feeling to go back to work when your body is so tired from your vacation activities. If I go to work feeling like that I'm sure that I would not be able to do my work well. It's better if I just wait until I get my strength back. [angelajoy]
If I have time, I will do that, but there is not always time. [GardenGerty]

lol well that happens to me sometimes for eaxmple next week my vacation comes up and if I know me .I will probably spend the first week of that sleeping ,then the next week by my mother .The third week maybe I will go out somewhere and have fun and that will probably go into the fourth week .One thing I am almost sure that will happen is that I will spend the last day into the wee hours of the morning doing something or the other and then go to bed after and wake up for work extremely tired .It always happened [ronnyb]
Wow, four weeks of vacation and you are taking them all at once. [GardenGerty]

I've never planned for that 'buffer' day between vacation and work either. Who wants to go back to work after a vacation well rested? Then people will just think that you've sat around you house instead of having fun. "I'm going to work because I'm too tired for another vacation" is the perfect mindset as we head into winter, knowing that the next opportunity for time off is the long Thanksgiving weekend. [catdla1]
I accrue fifteen PTO days after Nov. 17. This particular weekend did not require those days, I work extra all of the time, and I found someone to work my Saturday. I already have a swap out for Thanksgiving Weekend as well. [GardenGerty]

hi i like go on a trip,i must take a rest after a week's heavy work. [jsszlhy]
A little trip helps finish off a busy week. [GardenGerty]

Good morning The last time i went on vacation was in January-09. My daughter nad het husband have my husband and I a free trip with them and the grandkids to San Deigo. I love it there. We had such a good time. Went to Sea World and many other places.Had a room right next to the beach. The weather was great nice and warm.I think we might be going back again in January of next year. I had one day of rest when we got home than back to work. (NOT FUN) [babystar1]
I love visiting San Diego. I lived there awhile when my first husband was in the Navy. I like it much better as a visitor. [GardenGerty]

I to am glad u have a job, GG but i think u did need a few days of rest before u had to go back to work. [ANTIQUELADY]
I have used that quote many times, lol. [ANTIQUELADY]

We go on vacation in April and we also make sure that hubby takes off the following day. That vacationing is hard work! LOL! Then again we dont go to resorts and walk all over the place! Our type of vacation is history, walks, and such. This last year we went to Gettysburg and I tell you when we got home I was EXHAUSTED! lol [Ithink]
We had that happen on the first trip we took which was the year before, we went to Salem Ma and we did so much there including walking. That is why this year he made sure to take off another day after the trip. LOL! I hope you was able to get some rest before going to work. [Ithink]

We planned very far ahead and had everything all laid out and ready for when we came back, but then, since the first day of school was a short one and rather routine as a rule, we waited until the last minute in order to be able to enjoy our vacation home just as long as possible, and then, of course, when we retired we went there immediately. [drannhh]

oh GardenGerty do do hang on to your job as in this economy a job in the hand is worth your home and apartment and self esteem and happiness, well name it and its worth it. My poor son is still out of work after 11 months. so sad, and he tries to keep from getting depressed, I think I worry maybe more than he does. I see you had a great time but you came home needing a vacation again, and we used to do that too. he he. I have never see the ozarks and always wanted to, never got to Missouri although all my moms people came from Missouri a nd from Jennings co. Indiana, always wondered why Jennings co Indiana. all the other familes on mymons tree moved to Jennings co Indiana. so why I wonder. well that is hard to tell ,. anyway you sound like you really had a great time. good on you. [Hatley]

No body ever gets to rest before they go back to work ! We all get in too big of a hurry and only think about the fun we are having and do not give ourselves enough time to get rested for our work. But, in this day and age, we all need to be proud we have a job. I don't but just moved too. I am hoping to find something soon. Take care, quita88 [quita88]

I tend to just go right back to work - i agree though at times i feel like i need a vacation from my vacation by the time i get home! [saundyl]

We had a brief vacation this summer. The ride home was bad. Wish I took the next day off! At least I would have been able to rest up before the going back to work. I have heard it said more than once to make sure that you have a day off from your vacation before you go back to work. [ElusiveButterfly]

My husband and I are both unemployed and on disability, so that's really not an issue, but when it was an issue, we always agreed that a day or two to get back into the routine of being at home was always a good idea. Vacations don't always mean rest, when you leave home, and do things you wouldn't have the opportunity to do otherwise. [danishcanadian]

You are so happy to have a such long time vacation. I am a little jealousy. I only have four days vacation in Qingdao. It's a really relaxed vacation. When I come back to work, I can't help missing the days in Qingdao. I expect that I can have more time spent on vacation. A job offers the money to survive. Though it makes people bored and tired. Therefore, the vacation give the refreshment to us. [zhangfzoe]

Hi GG!! happy Good to see ya!! When hubby was in the Army and we went "home" to see our families, it was always a long long trip. From Texas it was a 25 hour trip and from Arkansas it was a 16 hour trip so yes, we'd return a day or two before hubby had to return to work so he could get the rest he needed. It's too hard to go straight back to work right after a long trip like that. [CatsandDogs]

Yes. I always try to make enough time to go on the trip and also have enough time to rest before going back to work. I have not been on a vacation in years though. I am always working too much. [stephcjh]

I have never think about this as i never took any vacation till now but i think it is necessary for relaxation and refreshing your mind. I always think that going out to another place from your place is necessary and spending till last minute of your vacation is good idea than giving time for rest before going back to work.Once we give rest to our body we may feel lazy to do the work thereafter.. [raj_ka]

hi..for me dere s no need rest up before i go back for work...yeah but stil v feel lazy to go for work since v wil be in trip mood...but wat to do v cant sit at home rite...watever it s,if v love our job den no need of getting lazy to go for job i tink...have a nice day !!!! [prakrithi]

Yes. I always look forward to take time to rest after working especially when I planned for a vacation. I totally rest without accepting anything about my work. I am planning now for a short vacation next month. I need to relax. [irene3184]

I am happy just to have one day if I get back from a trip before I return to work. I am fortunate though because I work for myself and can start back whenever I wish. I enjoy working though and have not problem with getting back to work. happy - Derek [derek_a]

Oh that sounds tiring! shocked But I've been there. Sometimes I think I need more that 24 hours a day. Before I moved here, I traveled a lot. I took a 4 hour flight then the next day I continued the trip of 6 hours by bus. It really made me tired, and I had no choice. But I consider myself lucky anyways, while some people may not have the chance to travel. Just like you, I'm so glad I have a job lol Have a nice day! [alwayzzcitra]

No, thankfully not. I always come back and have a day of rest before I go to work. The body needs to get its biorhythms back. Also a day of rest eases you back to the workplace.Yes, we all need regular vacations. [jonjee0203]

let me share you one of my bad experience of work. personally i am a graphic designer and i work with one of my friend and i study aswell. Once we had to design 3 websites at a time and the dead line of all of those projects were on Monday. We were only left with 1 day which was Sunday. the schedule of that day was like that.. i woke up at 6, Prayed to God, had breakfast started studying at 7 up till 10 then we started designing the website we end 2 websites by 6 in the evening, then we took lunch. and started working again on the last and the lengthiest project, which ended on 12 midnight. Then we went for outing for dinner. and finally came back at 2. The best part about this whole day was, we were on our vacations!! :( [saqibthe007]

we aways plan our vacation in such a way that we get some time to rest after our vacation like a day or so. it is really necessary to take rest after the vacation as we would be very tired and need some time to get settled. usually it happens that we leave the house in hurry and keep some work pending at home or we need to come down and finish up our left out work, in this way it is possible that we need to take some rest and finish our work and then get ready for the job next day and hence we planour vacation this way. [icegermany]
The next time I hope I do that. I should, I know. [GardenGerty]

I rest sometimes, being that the whole point of the vacation was to relax and get away, but I often find myself being tired from having fun more so than relaxing lol. [msinfo79]
Exactly the position I find myself in. [GardenGerty]

When I am on vacation it usually takes about a week or two. When I am back home after my vacation, I am tired out. I need to rest. So I take a day holiday to rest. [JamesKYTan]
We need to take a day holiday after your 2-week holidays. Normally for long holidays we go overseas. We pack, sight seeing, photo-taking, shopping and so on. It is rushing here and there that we are tired out. Thus we need a holiday for our holidays. [JamesKYTan]

I always think to go on a vaccation but not possible maybe one day i can make it by the grace of god. [fan_philo]
I get to do short weekends more than real vacations. [GardenGerty]

Take a nap at work, I won't tell... Last time I went to Germany, I did take a day off before going back to work. Crazy husband went straight back. Thinks he's Superman. lol [dawnald]
If I traveled overseas I would need more than just a day to recover. I will not tell anyone that you are married to Superman, Lois would be so jealous.w00t [GardenGerty]

Oh, I hate when that happens...going right to work after a vacation. You really do need a vacation from your vacation even if it's just to get back on schedule. I usually try to schedule it so I have at least one day off before going back to work...when I'm working that is....lol I'm still out on disability from June of 2005... I can't believe it's been that long..I am so anxious to get back to work...that will mean more money for vacations...yippeeee wub I love to go on trips, even if it's just for the weekend...of course it's got to be cheap and I have to be able to drive there...and find someone to take care of the pets...but I manage it somehow...lol Next time try to give yourself a bit more time before going to work..if you can, good luck. My favorite place to go is Pittsburgh, NH. a tiny little town almost to Canada with lots of Moose...hehehe Brightest blessings, Mari [mari61960]
Well, it was just a long weekend. I think the clients I care for needed Monday off, they were the pits. I hope you can find some work sometime, I hope your health allows it. [GardenGerty]

I think is one of the aim of every worker to have. Vacation makes us to relax after doing such hard work or any kind of work...Have a nice day! [aerous]

We have this discussion every time we go somewhere. Hubby is all for staying out till the last possible minute. Then he has to get up and 4 am to go to work, and his whole first week back to work is rough. I like to return home a day ahead, so we can settle in and have a day at home before the workweek starts. [jashoaf]

We have not taken a vacation in many years but when we did we would usually come back a couple of days early so I could get things put away before we had to go to work. Now it would not matter because I am not working right now. [happy6162]

No, After completing my vacation, I like join to work as soon as possible. [satishscp]
I usually have to, and getting back to routine is helpful. [GardenGerty]

When I worked, I mostly worked for myself, and I could rest up before I went back to work from traveling. I did have a few jobs where I worked for somebody else but I didn't do any traveling during that time. If I were working for somebody else, I'm aware I probably wouldn't be allowed to rest up before going back to work. It sounds like you had some very good times. Did you go to Branson, btw, when you were in Missouri? I've been there twice and I really enjoyed it. I just wondered since you said you went to the Ozarks. I bet the leaves were beautiful, weren't they? Kathy. [cyrus123]
Kathy, we did not go as far south as Branson on this trip, but it is close enough we will do it some weekend. The leaves were just barely beginning to turn where we were. When we came back this week, it was like the ones here turned right before our eyes.It is a very scenic drive, though. [GardenGerty]

I would always like to relax a little at home after time away from home when I was working. We used to hire an off road caravan for our 2 weeks away from home camping trip. I would want to come home and have a full day at home before going back to work and my partner would be most annoyed. Yet it would take him more than a day to clean out the caravan and return it to the shop, roll out our tent and clean and dry it, clean all the other equipment and store it while I did laundry and put away all the food stuffs and washed all the storage containers and kitchen utensils ready to be stored till next time. Our vehicle would need to be washed and my uniform and his clothes got ready for next day at work. Add to that two very excited doggies who were very glad to see us and would want to stay as close as possible....lol. Weekends away had to be very well organised so that when we arrived home, everything was ready for us to go back to work Monday....because things had so little use they could be packed away again pretty quickly...of course dishes and utensils had to be properly cleaned and that was my job while he carefully stored everything else safely away. [MsTickle]
I think it's really important to be organised about such things. Especially if you have animals. Even when I was working, I would come home and drop everything...the animals were my first priority for food and games...on a long day we could be away 12 hours...that's a long time between meals for any dog or kitty cat. [MsTickle]

I am hopeless like that, I am usually straight back into my work as soon as I return and soon feel like I had no rest at all. I am self employed so I usually want to get straight back into it to catch up with work. When I worked for a wage, I was getting holiday pay and I was more inclined to have a few days at home to unwind before returning to work. I really must learn to do this again now that I work for myself as it feels much better. [RawBill1]
Yeah, that is right! It is so easy to fall into the trap of working all the time on building the business and putting profits back into it. You then all of a sudden realise that you have no life! sad Just last week we realised this and decided to buy a new car and we are going on a road trip at Christmas time! Cannot wait! happy [RawBill1]

Wow.. awesome....I'm sure you enjoyed your time so much. I also need a vacation from my vacation at times.. LOL .. In fact, I really want an island stay whereby I don't need to do anything. I just prefer to go on a vacation with family or buddies whom are close and perhaps if time and budget permit, I might go next year. Destination; not sure yet.. [zed_k4]

I know what you mean about needing a vacation after a vacation. Some of the vacations I've been on have been very involved (tours with many sightseeing and evening activities), and the plane trip back home seems endless. I don't want to do anything but just flop. [6precious102]
I came back home to find that staff was sick and I had to cover some hours. [GardenGerty]

GargenGerty..we simply haven't been able to afford or even find the time to go on a vacation other than camping about an hour away in over 10yrs. When we did go last time, we came home a day before going back to work so we could get dirty laundry done and other stuff before the work week started. If we were able to, we would never come back from vacation. [blackbriar]

hi garden, to be very frank i havenot been to a vacation since after my 10th class which is about 6 years back. I didnt get time and the money supply was short too but i do plan to go to mountains when ever we have enough money so i would like to go to Shimla, Manali, Darjelling and i really envy you for ur vacations. [purnima175]

I think many times after taking a trip, even if it a short one over the weekend you often get back to work on Monday feeling like you need a vacation from your vacation. But I think a lot of it is timing and making sure you get the much needed sleep when you can as well. Yes, you had Fun. Yes, you got to do something you enjoy. Now it is time to get back to work but also get some much needed sleep caught up as well. When you learn to do both with balance it helps to make things easier for sure. [KrauseHome]

I love holidays and there's nothing better than going away for a week or a long weekend, a fortnight if I'm lucky. If the holiday is for a week or two I try to go on the Saturday then when I get back home I have the Sunday to wind down and prepare for Monday at work. If it's a long weekend I like to return home as early as possible on the Sunday, that gives me at least the rest of that day to focus my mind on the day ahead. [BulletTooth]

Being self-employed you would think I would leave myself ample time to rest up. I try to, but I find I am always squeezing as many days as I can out of the schedule to enjoy on my trip. Even though I work for myself, my clients depend on me and I would not want to leave them without help too long or risk losing some to the competition because I neglected them. That, plus the fact that I come home needed the money since I take as much as I can to fully enjoy the trip even though I try to be thrifty and cut costs. No matter, how you break it down vacations cost, even if it is just the gas. So I usually get home late in the evening and have to get up early the next morning to go to work. Like you I think to myself, I need a vacation to rest up from my vacation...lol [paintswithwords]
I fully understand how demanding work can be when people depend on you. As you say though, we need to take more breaks for ourselves, which now that I am heading to retirement I am finally doing. Thanks for the best response...:)) [paintswithwords]

Nah, I dont mind since being on a vacation is actually the rest time for me. But I have to have a day to catch up on sleep and let my body rest from the grueling trip home. Of course i can still function if I go straight to work but I will be very tired through that. When I do finally get to have some sleep after getting home and working that first day, I would be knocked out that Id need help from someone who could shake me awake the next day cause I wouldnt hear the alarms anymore.doh Its great to hear that you had a nice time in your vacation. Taking that can renew one's perspective on things. We get to be reminded about the things that we might have unnoticed for a while. Good thing vacations are only that, vacations. We can go back to the things that we missed, the things that are important to us and the things that gets us through.^_^ [bjcyrix]
