Would You Like To Spend The Rest Of Your Life Living In An Hotel

This couple have been making the news here in the UK http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070911/od_afp/lifestylebritainhoteloffbeat For the past 22 years they have been living in an Hotel instead of in a house or apartment. They say it saves them money on heating, electricity etc., they get their room cleaned and their laundry done (so no housework), and they always have people around them as they are getting old now. I must admit I think it's a great idea - how about you? Would you like to live in an Hotel for the rest of your life? What would be the advantages do you think? And if not - why not? What wouldn't you like about it?

I can see why they enjoy hotels. I lived in a one for a week. I had wifi internet, a hundred television channels, somebody to clean up for me, clean sheets, air conditioning, etc. It wasn't bad. It gets expensive though! I don't see how they save money by living this way, unless UK hotels are cheaper than in the U.S. [easherly]
Well it's just an average Hotel (not a 5 star one) and they get very cheap deals - they give you the prices in the article. And from my knowledge and experience - UK Hotels are generally more expensive than US ones - it's just that our rents and mortgages are higher than almost anywhere else in the world (LOL!), - so without the heating and utitity bills, it works out cheaper for them. [rosie_123]

It sounds like the little old lady on the cruise ship. She's been on many voyages now. She gets her room cleaned daily, has the use of all the facilities, all her meals and medical aid if required. It's cheaper than a nursing home!! I know what I'm gonna be doing when i'm old enough....lol. [MsTickle]
Well I get seasick, so the cruise ship idea wouldn't do for me, - but I can see the logic in what this lady is doing. Thanks for your answer. [rosie_123]

It sounds like a good idea, if you don't have, or want any pets. I would do it, if I weren't an animal lover, and could live without my pets. But, since I am an animal lover, I wouldn't want to live in a hotel, unless my babies could come. Since I have so many babies, I'm sure they would say no, to me. lol [brendakaya]
Yes - I would be the same. Most Hotels in the UK will allow pets - so maybe one dog or one indoor cat, that didn't wander around the Hotel all the time, would be acceptable. But they wouldn't take so many as you and I have got. So looks like the Hotel idea is out for me too. [rosie_123]

No way would I do that! I had to live in a hotel for over a month one time and I thought I'd lose my darned mind! lol Being that hubby was in the army and moving from one state to another we had to live in a hotel till we found a house to buy and it was pure hell. Too small of rooms made us feel very confined. No way would I do that. [CatsandDogs]
Yes - when I was married to my ex-husband, we lived in a one-roomed bedsit for a while, and it drive me crazy to be so enclosed with one person all the time - but maybe that's because he drove me crazy anyway! Thanks for your response. [rosie_123]

Hiya Rosie, and this is such a great story my friend, and thank you for sharing it with us :) It is a way of course to have it like they do, and it might work for many elders of their age. The question is if I will do it ever and be in such a noicy place as they have chosen to be living in. But I guess at a less noicier place the prices would be higher too. Besides, I am not sure it will be easy to find such a helpful personel at a place like the one they found and are living in. I do not know if I will chose it for my way of living in my older days, but it definitely is worth the thought at least :) [thefortunes]
Well I guess it measns if they ever have problems there are always people on hand to help - like a Nursing Home but without the costs. Thanks for responding. [rosie_123]

I can't imagine living in the impersonal rooms that a hotel provides. However I can understand why the couple wanted to. I think once I am retired it would be lovely to be waited upon all the time and be able to go out and enjoy life. [michelledarcy]
Yes it would. And I guess ones you have put some of your personal photos and nick-nacks around the room, it would become less impersonal. Thanks for responding. [rosie_123]

Living in a hotel her in my country is very expensive. I can't afford to live in a hotel instead of renting a house even if i wanted to. And besides i think it's pretty lonely also. It's different when you live in an apartment or renting a house in a subdivision because it's fun and you get to meet your neighbors and speak to them most of the time. [Euphrosyne]
Thanks for your response. [rosie_123]

sorry i can't spend rest of my life in hotel. because inthe hotel everything is professional...they don't respect you, they respect your money only..i recommend everyone to stay at home in lovely environment . i can't compare a hotel with home..home is far better then home rupak [rupak111]
Thanks for putting forward your views. [rosie_123]

Nope, i would hate it. I feel like a lack of intimacy when i am at a hotel. It's true that the room is virtually yours while you're there, but it's not the same. Plus you cannot decide how the room looks etc. And eating non home made food every day is not the best for me. On the other hand though, you don't have to clean nor do any chore at all, and that's very cool lol. [LightninStrike]
It's the idea of never cooking or doing housework that appeals to me the most! LOL! Thanks for responding. [rosie_123]

I definitely WOULD be up for that, sounds like a fantastic idea! After going through a very gruelling, stressing time of buying a home, which I would never go through again and throwing money away renting, staying in a hotel would have so many advantages, no more bills, no more housework and cooked food. Sounds like a life of luxury. Your neighbours would be changing all the time so if you got any noisy ones you could rest assure that hopefully after a week or two they would be moving on (unless they too are residents!) [wolfie34]
Yes - the neighbours thing is very true. Plus you would get all the Sky channels and wi-fi Internet connection without having to pay for them! [rosie_123]

Is it legal to live in a hotel? That seems interesting. I'll have to mention that to my roommate! :D That is a good idea but not sure if it saves a lot of money. Isn't it like $80 a night? Sheesh.. [loolets]
Yes - but then England is quite expensive in relation to the rest of the world. Normal mortgages are rents would work out more than that - plus you would have to pay for heating etc on top. So looking at it that way, it really isn't that expensive. Thanks for your response. [rosie_123]

If I could afford to do this, i think I might like it. It would cost a lot, though, and a lot of my expenses would be fixed. I think it might be very convenient to have a place to live where I didn't have to cook or clean. [cutepenguin]
I would love never having to cook or clean again! LOL! Thanks for responding. [rosie_123]

If I could afford to do it I probably would but I don't know what I'd do with my stuff. It says they kept there flat so presumably they store most of there belongings there. I do like having my own home however and doing my own laundry and cleaning is a small price to pay for it really. maybe when I'm older I might feel differently however and it's got to be nicer than being in a care home. [nancyrowina]
Yes- I think that is definately true - thanks for responding. [rosie_123]

If I can afford it, why not? It would be nice to have everything done for you. All you do is just sleep and enjoy life. No worries about household chores. You will only sit to eat. No worry about cooking and groceries. It's like living a king's life. But that kind of life would be too costly. [funny52f]
Well the funny thing is, of course, here io the UK it probably isn't that costly, because rents and mortgages are so high, that the Hotel would be cheaper! LOL! And then you wouldn't have to pay for heating etc either. Thanks for your answer. [rosie_123]

well I zkinda think that its a good idea as long as you dint have any children . The cost sometimes equals out since you dont have to pay any bills and also you have cable, room service. I guess if you have a pet it might cause a problem finding a hotel that would allow that. Here is one thing i have always wondered, When you say for a extented time, could you get your mail there or would you have to rent a po box? [whisper1488]

Well yes. I stay in Hotels a lot when travelling for my job, and I have often had mail sent to me directly to a Hotel. It weouldn't be a problem. [rosie_123]

I don't think I could ever live in a hotel for a year as there is also alot of auto insurance fraud with rentals overseas..or even for a week...it's because I don't want to be enclosed in a small space...I'm kinda used to a house with a lawn where I can sat down in the afternoon and read my fave books and I have lots of pet, too...so living in a hotel is not for me...^^ [yojspew]
Yes - not beng able to take all my pets would stop me too. I think you would only be allowed to take one pet with you. Thanks for responding. [rosie_123]

If you can afford it great but to live in a hotel would be, at least where I live 60.00 a night maybe double bed, if you have kids it just won' work....do the math....that's more than we bring in a month.... Nope wouldn't do it again.... When we left one apartment complex due to eviction, we lived in ahotel room for a year.....I couldn't stand it, and then when our house was foreclosed on I had to do it again, it was no picnic. no place to go for peace adn quiet and if you don't have an efficiency you are eating out every day Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
Well obviously if you have kids it would make it more expensive, as you would need at least two rooms. But, of course, here in England, rents and mortagegs (and wages) are way higher than they are in most other places, so the two rooms would still be cheaper than any other option. Plus you wouldn't have to pay for heating, electricity etc. I imagine being coopedup in a small place with kids would be bad though. Thanks for responding. [rosie_123]

I will like to spend my next time in hotel.Because of old age I donot want to give responcibility to my children.Which spending their life nicely. [azimsay]

well it sounds great to me,but i dont know if they would allow my kitten, they might be afraid of him when he gets bigger, hes gonna be like 40 pounds like a tiger, great protection though.did you say no house work, that would be a blessing, yes on that one,two thumbs up.pattie [3lilangels]
Well they would allow him here yes - most Hotels allow pets! 40lbs - wow! He is sure going to be a big boy! Thanks for stopping by. [rosie_123]

No I wouldn't as I like my own personal touch to things and I like my Space so I would not like to live like that [gabs8513]
Yes I do understand what you mean here. Thanks for responding my friend. [rosie_123]

Wow that's great, I guess the longest days I've lived in a hotel was like almost a month. My sister went out of town and we have to check in a hotel instead of finding a house or something. Anyway we just stayed there for like over a month. During my stay in that hotel, it was boring because all I see is the four corners of the room except if I go down the lobby and stay there. All the time is watching television, eat, play computer games and sleep that's all. [MGjhaud]

I really love the idea of it! If it was just me and hubby it would be ok. But since we have our pets it would not work. So if the pets can't be there, then I can't either. But if that were not the case, I would be all over that! [Geminigirl]
